I've known Jim and John (may he RIP), since around 1993 and probably a few years earlier, as I can't recall the first time I actually came across their shop?Your LGS and my LGS owners are best buddies. Jim has a piece of ground about four miles from me here. John was a character also. I bought a Ruger LCR .38 +p from Jim when the two of them were set up at a gunshow/trappers convention a couple years ago. Good inventory in Little Crow.
John always gave me the best deals...
-One time I needed a mag for a Mossberg 22. They had a used one for $25, but they also had a Rifle with one mag...I haggled with John a bit and got the Rifle and Mag for $45.
-Another time, I had been looking at a pistol, John gave me a great price, I chose to wait a day, and think about it. The Next day, I go in to buy it, and John was out for the Day, I told Jim about the price John gave me for that gun...Jim, says you gotta come back and buy it from him, if you want it at that price...and then Jim says, "you should start calling him 'Grandpa', if he is giving you deals like that". (I don't remember what the gun was or the price...I wish I did, as it'd make the story even better)
Lastly,,,to get this back on topic: Katie called and said the Henry Big Boy (41 Mag) came in. I went over there today and picked it up.
It's real nice, I like the cut checkering...actually I wasn't expecting it to have checkering?
I couldn't find the Ser. number on the gun, is it under the stock?
After I got it home, I cycled a few rounds of my pet load/OAL of the 255gr Ranch Dog, which are seated out a bit far to touch the lands on my Marlin, and found that this Henry is a touch shorter in the Throat. I could still close the bolt/lever, but it required more force that I like. I also had a dummy round made from a SWC Keith type and that didn't like to go into the chamber nicely.
I'll report back when I get this out to the range.
So, what is my Member # (ASBC Henry Rifle Owners Association)
