New mold headed my way!

I have known of this one. But never even gave it a second look. I have a ideal 150g RN that I have used in the Super some years back. But RN in cast never did it for me.
Odd too, cause I very much prefer a blunt RN for most if my hunting as its inside 100 98% of the time and that blunt point just starts expanding and works so well for me theu the years. Always disappointed when I see manufacturers discontinuing these excellent profiles just cause over exuberant youth are so drawn the slick pointy hi BC projectiles even tho many are hunting under exact same conditions as myself.

Any how, a group of reloaders I have become friendly with over the last 8 months or so have had very good luck with this bullet in there Legends. After talking and watching some
Videos I have concluded that this bullet as a HP with some experimentation with alloys might just be exactly what I was wanting. IMHO this cartridge is best served with a bullet between 180/200g. Good Vel can be achieved resulting in sufficient energy. Couple that with proper alloy that will reliably expand I feel its a win er!

Our own SMac has this mold in a HP!!! And he very graciously offered me some testing bullets. (I owe ya man!!)

They arrived and look great!! They are powdr coated and ready to shoot later this afternoon.

In the mean time, knowing that many times it takes long time to find a older discontinued mold... I put up a WTB add and to My surprise it was answered in just a few days with a wonderful newer production 195g 2/cav mold!! The deal was struck and they mold is in route!

Ill cast up a few pounds of a couple alloys and then find/decide who to send it off to for the addition of a HP. Eric @ HP Bullet molds comes highly recommended! I need to do a lil figuring and deciding on particulars like hole style round, 3,4 or 5 sided pins. Solid pin too?? All this adds up cost wise. But as I have said bigger pic is the costs are not huge a d who can put a price upon our own enjoyment. So Ill just do what I want at that time and hope its gonna be good for me down the road.

Here is a bullet pic along with the original case and load it was made for. The 38 S&W cartridge.

That looks nice! Good bearing surface and nice, beefy base band. Sound plan to cast and shoot some before adding the cost of a custom HP job. Just so you know for sure it will feed and generally work in your gun.

I load that bullet for the S&W Victory in .38S&W. Looks like you need another TP ?

And Lyman still catalogs it. #358430

I don't want to Know how many .38cal molds I have.

An excellent and accurate 38 caliber revolver mould! It was among the first I bought in 1981 when I stumbled down this bullet casting rabbit hole. I have run it from 650 FPS in the 38/200 (Beagled up to .363"), up to 1200 FPS in 357 Magnum. I have 20 of these loaded in 357 Magnum cases atop 12.4 grains of WW-296 and cast as Bruce B Soft Points. Kinda useless now that Lead Is Evil in Kalifornistan, but NV has no such limits. I have even paper-patched these up to .368" and used them in my 9.3 x 62 Mauser for varminting.

Ooh boy... I probably couldn't even count iff top of my head!!!

A 190 Ranch Dog, a 190 Group Buy on a LEE 6cav block but conv lube groove and fatter nice then the RD bullet. A 358429, same in a HP, a 357477, 357466, a 358311 158g RN Lyman, two diff wad cutter One lyman & 1 Ideal molds, a lyman 115 SWC for the 9mm, a 95g RN. 2 cav Lee, a 135g RD 5cav NOE mold, a 125 Lee 6cav, a 158 Lee 6cav, a MP 358640, another LEE 90 FP 6 cav mold. A Saeco 383, a Saeco 396, a RCBS 150 swc, ooh a NOE 360-232 and a Accurate 360-27 270g. Then there is the 358 hydra shock HP and the Lyman pointy spitzer molds... Im sure others... ;).

Casting went real well!! But had to quite lil earlier then I wanted. Heat in Garage was 85 temp Outside was 75. Even with a bug fan I have and both ends open but by 10 it was too hot.

I sized them all this afternoon!

Now just gotta wait for them to season!!

I did make a video of casting this mold as well as another video on all The powder coat.

It was 105 on ny garsge thermometer a few days ago when I was threading a muzzle on the lathe. 85 would have been really nice. How did the coating turn out on those ice cube tray bullets?

I see you have a new mould club and have already got it thoroughly broke in :p

Cool, CW, thanks for taking the time to make and post that. The way most of you are doing the shake and dump thing seems to be getting really good results and control over clumping/lumps. Sags, I'm not so sure, but that is probably more a function of the powder type and how thick it coats/how well it flows. Like you said, we're still learning and trying new stuff.

Using Smoke's gloss black on the 40sw cast, seems holding the tub with towels when shaking works best. Humidity is 50% today, hard to get good coverage, these turned out a bit splotchy. Been experimenting with this powder, it tends to clump/run when cooked. Set hot plate on medium and let them sit for 1/2 hr (cause I was busy elsewhere), then turned to high. Lower temp keeps them in 'flow' heat region longer, then adjust to high heat to crosslink (20 min as again busy). Coating is much smoother.
