Wife said she wanted a dog. She set the whole thing and I tried to talk her out of it all the way down to the breeder! Kinda hard to say no to the wife. She said Happy Birthday when when she handed me the puppy! So, meet “Baby Girl Lucille” (Lucy).

My absolute favorite breed of dog...Springer Spaniels are just terrific. Not too big but big enough to be capable. Bonus if from hunting stock.

Your life just got better.
Now the life of your boots? They might be in danger.
Yeah, I wasn't going to say anything. But normally, you don't give a dog something that you don't want them to chew. If they grab a shoe, you take it away and give them a chew toy. Good to set boundaries early in the game.

Picture an American Water Spaniel with a docked tail. Same temperment/drive as a Springers, but chocolate brown with yellow eyes. Best duck dog I ever had!!!

Yep, good to set boundaries early, but I was about to take her in the house and come back out and put those boots on. I had cleaned up her toys, and the mouse trap she found. I wear those boots and a vinyl apron while fleshing beaver, which takes place just to the right of frame in picture. Not a good idea to have a puppy around while fleshing because the fleshing go on the floor and puppies will gorge if given the chance. Beaver fleshing and beaver are prized sled dog food. Fleshing are the best, because ground beaver bones have calcium in them, which causes a dogs stomach to shrink and slows them down. Cash stood right beside me while I was fleshing, ate his fill, then laid on that rug pictured, just in case he decided he wanted more later. There are two dog pillows left of frame in that picture for Cash, but he decided that might be too far away from the remaining fleshing! Lol

She's a cutie! Not Springers, but Britanny spaniels are real popular around here because of the strong upland bird hunting heritage. My sister and her husband had two for a long time, down to just one now. Great personalities. I really want another dog, and I will when I retire for good. Just not around enough now.

Pup Lucy is doing real well, getting the wife and I trained!Cash ,on the other hand, has flat out taken this pup on like his own! Cash shows Lucy all the squirrel tracks outside when he takes his routine run. Lucy doesn’t get too far from Cash unless the wife or I are holding her. If I have beaver to put up the wife makes sure Lucy is in her lap while Cash and I are in the shop. That suites all parties involved!
My son also got a Springer pup, a female also, three days older than Lucy, from a different breeder. They have had two “play dates” and go non-stop for hours. If they get too rambunctious Cash gets right in the middle of them! He lays down and bats them around like toys! It’s hilarious to watch.
Lucy will retrieve a toy pheasant a couple times solo, then gets bored and E18AA3B6-04F1-4823-B09A-F1C2CA715278.jpegD9EB890B-014B-437E-B31C-D249F5680E43.jpegEE6F5156-F2F7-4525-8775-D464B632DA7A.jpeggoes looking for Cash. She learned that trick after attaching herself to one of Cash’ ears or a wing of the toy about 200 times while he retrieved it! Lol can’t tell you how happy we are Cash has accepted the puppy and seems pretty happy in his mentor role.
