More testing with the RD bullet in two different 30-30's
This bullet has done well in my Savage 340 bolt gun with 29gr of H4895
ACWW + 2% foundry type sized to .311' and lubed with Lar's 2500+ and a coat of BLL these will shoot 10 rounds under inch and a half at 50 yards with receiver sights.
Same alloy but I'm going to try 28gr of IMR3031 for my Dad's Win '94 lever gun.
It wears a cheap set of Williams receiver sights. Mix brass, CCI primer.
I'm excited to get a load worked out for dad's '94
I have not shot this but maybe twice since he passed. It's a great little brush gun for around here.
This five cavity NOE makes a pile of bullets in short order. I did anneal all the brass before I FL sized.
I am not that familiar with the Win '94. Man! They are way more slim and trim than my Marlins are!
Dad's was nothing special. Looks to be a Sears and Robuck special possibly. The receiver looks more brown than blue. No matter. It was his and now it's mine. The bore looks super shinny with good rifling. I'm pretty sure I can get her to shoot cast. I'll post a few pics.

Looks good Waco. I love the slim and trim feel of the old 94 winchesters. I just never could shoot open sights worth a nickel.

Good looking gun to me Walter. .good looking bullet too...

BTW..I would go easy on the ..annealing....l've found those necks to be rather thin and have gad problems gettinng enough neck tension..to be consistant any ways..

Just last night I was installing checks on bullets cast with the same mold. NOE's 165's are my go to hunting bullet for 30/30.
You might want to look at the first cavity on the left. In your mold picture. It looks like there could be the start of tinning on the corners of the cavity.

Just a question out of curiosity, when loading a lever gun via the side loading gate especially with longer cast bullets, is their any concentricity issues? I know there is quite a bit of force needed to depress the gate in order to load on my 30-30.

BTW, beautiful looking loads Waco.

I shoot that exact bullet in my win 94 with 17 grns of imr 4198 and with a peep sight it shoots clover leafs all day long winter, summer, spring.
I anneal exactly like you and have had a few issues with tension. It will settle down on the next loading of the brass.
This bullet and the 311041 shoot the same load very well.
The point of impact is different of course on the 311041.

Try it you may like.

Take care

I have a bit of IMR4198. I'll give that a try for sure. Any idea of the speed that is going ?

I guess I never got wrapped into speed.
As long as it shoots I am good with it :):)

I switched over to washingtons primitive muzzleloader season for hunting and now a long shot is a hundred yards.
It kind of changes my thought process on speed/velocity.
Big bullet chuggin along puts meat in the freezer as long as I do my part ;)

I don't own A chrony either. I own two!

I rarely shoot rifles without it.

I have a bit of IMR4198. I'll give that a try for sure.
So I'm loading up 25 rounds of 17gr IMR4198 right now. I might try 25 rounds of 10gr Unique too.
I'm headed out to the desert this next weekend for a five day camping (much deserved get out of town) trip.
I'll test these loads then. Thanks for the load advice Wasalmonslayer.

The 17gr 4198 showed some promise. Off of a not so sturdy rest, I was able to put three rounds through pretty much the same hole at 50 yards.
The next two I pulled opening the group up to around 5"

I need to take this load to the range and shoot off bags. I never got around to trying the 3031 loads!

Might want to start at 9 gr. of Unique first. 1375 vs 1450, fps curve starts to flatten @ 10 and accuracy gets poorer.
