Norma 202?

Anybody tried this one with cast?
I got a couple pounds in a trade a few years ago. Norma says it was developed for the 308. One burn rate chart I've seen shows it one notch faster than H4895. It's a ball powder, Norma data lists it with a magnum primer. I used some with good accuracy in my JC Higgins 308 using 150 J word bullets, but never broke out the chronograph while using it.

Never used it with cast bullets, just jacketed bullets in an H&K SL7. Yes it is a heavily coated ball powder that was commonly used for 7.62 NATO in Europe. It is suppose to have the best pressure curve for the FN-FAL rifles, like H4895 for the M1 Garand.

Just dug it out of the stash to check. It actually is a very fine rod shape. Thinking about trying it with a #315 in the 308

"heavily coated ball powder" Sorry, I was referring to the chemistry of the powder. Winchester/Olin who developed this in WWII always sold it in a round or flatten round shape. Burning rate is controlled by surface area and coatings. Norma and most European makers use the same chemistry but it is rods or flakes or even cubes and use coatings also. The "stick" powders from DuPont (IMR) control burn rate by varying the shape of the powder particles, and very little coatings.
