38 super today
Mp275 mold
900ish fps shoots very accurate,,holes are ragged cut.
1100ish,and the bullet holes are cookie cutter made,,,perfect and sharp.
Did this all afternoon,as i was playing with loads.
Btw,,the 900 speed loads are clearly more accurate then 1100.
Has to do with rpm im sure,,dont think it matters,,
Thought you people might find this intresting.

My guess would be that it has to do with the inertia of the paper - not being overcome by the time the faster bullet goes through it.

Funny, all the odd little things we notice doing

I love playing around with this stuff!!

funny we can pick and poke a target to death.
all we probably really should care about is how far apart the holes are, but we just can not help ourselves from wanting little groups, clean muzzles, square hung targets, higher/lower speeds,,, and we want it all while only using 2grains of powder and 1/2 of a primer.

That 275 has a big lube groove,,once in a while,i see a dab of felix lube stuck on
the paper,,
Wonder about that constantly.....

Felix shouldn't be hanging on to the bullet [almost typed Boolit...LOL]
it has about the same consistency as my simple lube and should break down a bit more under pressure.

I know my chronograph is some kinda covered in felix.tripod looks like its got measles,,after about 6000 rds fired over it.

lube doing that will influence the bullets flight, it throws it off balance.
you probably want to thin it out some to fling better at the muzzle or cut in some micro wax to help it stay in place to the target.

help me remember.
did you add some soap to the mix?

All i make is original felix,,since about 2005.

I run bens red for awhile,,loved it,but lube wouldnt stay in the grooves, stored in a jar.so i went back to felix.
I love reading about the lube cookin, you mad scientist people do,but it over whelms my pea brain.

Felix is some good lube. Used it for many years. It was certainly good at fouling my Marlin 1804 CB in 45 Colt. That huge chamber with light loads allowed lots of lube to blow into the action.

I may have made it incorrectly, but Felix Lube caused my bullets to corrode after 2 or 3 years of storage, and it seemed to dry out. Ben's Red never changes, doesn't corrode brass or lead in my experience. Oh, and it just plain works. I am surprised some company has not come out with it commercially.

I have been using "Ben's Red" exclusively for 3 years and am sold on it. I better be as I made a double batch and think that I have a lifetime supply.
