OK : What is it about "Red Dot"

I would think that 13 gr Red Dot has to be higher in pressure than 16 gr 2400
The 2400 load in my GEW 8mm doesn't bother me but that Red Dot load well..... No Sir don't like it.....Shoots accurate but just too hot for my liking

the 13gr of red-dot is the one up in the 45-K+ area.
that's why it had the case size/bore restrictions.
16grs. of 2400 is probably 10-K in pressure lower than the red-dot load is in rifle cases.

The 13 gr. R Dot load in the 30/06 is definitely building more pressure than a lot of shooters think it is. I've read all the rave reviews on that load. However , it has NEVER shot for me .

10gr of Unique sounds like a great one for me to try. I hear good things about unique except that it apparently meters terribly.

"I hear good things about unique except that it apparently meters terribly."

All the more reason to have a powder trickler.

It meters at least as well ad Red Dot.

Successful powder metering is 90% technique and 10% equipment.

We all have powders we are drawn to and those we avoid. Reasons aren’t always clear.
I own an 8# jug of Unique yet use it very rarely. I have an 8# of Red Dot that will be opened when my current 8# Promo is gone.
Now 2400, that is something I will never be without,

I have a lot of Red Dot, from shotgunning with my dad, a long time ago. I need to work up some 9mm rounds with the MiHec 124 gr. penta point, but haven't gotten around to it.
Unique is my go to powder with all of my handguns. High end for the small calibers and mid range for the larger bores.

Red Dot is the go to powder for every thing I shoot. I have tried many other powders but I always come back to Red Dot. I have way too many powders and I must whittle down the supply.

I had a pound of RD left over from my trap shooting days.
I decided to try it in my 357 with some so-so cast bullets I was given.
5 gr RD with a 158 SWC turned out to be my favorite mid range load...dale

5 is good in the 44 mag and 45 colt too, cheap accurate and fun to shoot.
I'm using it and bulls-eye interchangeably in the 9mm.
3.2grs. just flips cases out in a nice pile in all 5 of the guns we use it in, everyone can shoot that load pretty well too.

I love red dot in the 32 Long and 38 special. It just dotes along. The 44 Mag and 45 colt sit back and cruise with it. It goes bang in the 40 S&W but I prefer power pistol.

One little difference with American Select compared with the rest of Alliant's shotgun/handgun powders is that it is a single based powder.

JJ, 7.8 was the best in my 03a3, but not match good, 7 to 8 grains of reddot, greendot, 700x, clays, n-310 were all better, but not much. 700x and reddot were the best

Are you guys using fillers? I could not get it to group in a 30-30, 06 or 7.62.
I tipped muzzle up to settle the powder against the primer made some difference.
I had tried blue dot prior to the RD. Blue dot was the most position sensitive powder I ever used. Muzzle up, bump the stock, aim, fire nice groups. Load and just shoot from the magazine, wasn't even a good pattern, always low and left or right.

I had sworn off the dots but a guy dropped of some red dot a while back, adding more to what I have.
I can't figure what I am doing wrong?
I load up 2400 or SR4759 with no problems and excellent accuracy.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
How much neck tenison/crimp? Sometimes a powder needs a little crimp to burn right. Light bullets or heavies. With heavies crimp doesn't seem to be so needed.
