Old man wakes up long enough to save the day

Today at the farm was paradise, cool temp, slight breeze, no mosquitos. Not many doves, but it was still WAY better than Sugar River bottoms...

Took Belle out the first time, shot twice at a dove coming off the old farm house powerline... Went back, Belle beat me there.

One dove flew over. Belle and I took off the other direction. Pushed up a dove in the hickories behind us. Kept swinging south. Belle was checking things out. We were coming out on the north side of the hickory valley, Belle was working under some oak trees, and we pushed up six or seven doves... which I missed...

Anyways, we went back to the old man. Belle had managed to precisely roll in something, mostly on the collar, right ear, and right shoulder. I walked down to the car, got my 409 cleaner and roll of paper towels. Took off the collar, wiped and sprayed much of it off. The tags were sticking together.... Cleaned up her ear and shoulder some. Got her collar back on and sat back. Then three doves flew in, flared a bit, then they landed in the small walnut tree about 30 yards north of the old man. He quit snaffling and shot one of the perched doves, which fell like a rock into the grass on the other side of the fence.

Belle had watched the birds come in and land, saw one drop, and she went out and retrieved it all by herself. Might have toothed it a bit, but the retrieve was flawless.

As always, she was well fed. Stopped in at Silver Lewis Cheese and I saw a sight that almost brought me to my knees, it was so awesome... There on the bottom shelf of a plastic cart were a BIG bag of white curds and a BIG bag of yellow curds. About the size of a large pillow!
