Old School Scope Mount question - Winchester Mdl 75

when I shot rimfire rifle league, we shot several ranges. When the range was under 100 yds, and I felt like having some fun, I'd leave my League gun at home and bring my $75 M-1969 Romanian trainer with 3/4" steel tube 4x El Paso weaver. That gun was a great shooter at 50 yds, but I couldn't wind dope with that tiny scope.

Having shot them for 45 years, modern shooters will not do the maintenance on externally adjustable scope. They are not set and forget.
If you mean wipe them down with an oily rag and lube the knobs and sliding points now and then, I don't see why they wouldn't, except out of ignorance.

Shot the 52C with the 10X Unertl in the club .22 match today. It was a 3 minute match with round discs, 3 minutes in diameter set at 50, 100, 150 and 200 yds. Wind was all over the place and my inability to wait a few seconds for a strong gust at 9-3 to calm down cost me a miss. But I can live with that because every miss is another learning experience. The miss was at 200 yds and the wind pushed me about 3 inches off the target, so about 6 inches (3 MOA) right of center. Elevation was perfect. Having a spotter that could call the wind was the key to success today for sure. And you had to pick the right flag. At 50 yds the wind could be going 3-9 and at 100, 9-3 and every other variation you can think of.

But I love days like today. You learn so much. And this will all come in handy tomorrow because I'll be shooting .223 at 1000 yds tomorrow morning, compliments of my shooting partner. He told me to bring a chair. He's providing everything else. He said we will be using F-class targets which have a 5 inch X-ring which is roughly 1/2 MOA. Should be fun.
