Piano wire is easy to get around here. Any hardware store carries it.

Figured out a bit of my problem. Looks like the hammer is hitting the bottom of the rear sight. Need to keep an eye out for that once I get it all back together.

Yikes. That would not be a good thing. The slide recoil is bad enough, no need for
hammering. Maybe you can find somebody with a mill to make a little clearance.;)
The question is whether to take a touch off the sight or the top of the hammer.

Figured out the problem.
I had fit an oversized FP stop so I could give it minimal radius on the lower edge. Seems I left it a bit tall and it was impacting the bottom of the rear sight. Over time the stop impacting the bottom of the sight caused a fatigue fracture at the base of the head of the one screw that kept the sight from moving upward freely.

Here you can easily see the wear area from the FP stop on the bottom of the rear sight.
You can also see the before and after of the FP stop and how it sits as it relates to the rear sight. I filed off about 40 thousandths and it no longer is even close to hitting the rear sight.

At large, whereabouts unknown.
I'm glad you posted this. I have a square firing pin stop that I've been putting off installing in my 1911. I will make it a point to watch for potential contact with my Bomar.

Hopefully my agony will save you from the same.
I filed mine down so it is flush with the sight cut.

Screw arrived today. Fits like it was made for the sight! I have a feeling I know who made the sight for Colt.
All together now, just need to shoot it and get elevation setting back.

12 bucks well spent.

Good failure analysis work, Brad. Shouldn't repeat, I would think.

Shooting quickly to keep those self defense skills 'de-rusted' is hard on one's
fine trigger pull skills. I do like to start and end a 1911 or other self defense pistol
practice session with a 10 yds black paster as a target and try to make a one hole
group, standing. Sometimes I can actually do it. :)
