Powder coated bullets and black powder

Seen a lot about powder coating all sorts of bullets but I don't recall reading much about powder coating bullets used with loose black powder. Have I just missed things, has anybody tried it? Mostly interested in use in revolvers such as an Old Army.

I don't think the pc will replace bp lube since the lube needs to keep the powder fouling soft, so it may or may not be worthwhile.

I've never done it (powdercoat) myself, but I've shot a fair bit of black powder through a Ruger Old Army and other C&B revolvers. They shoot best when you use a slightly over-sized ball and shave a ring of lead off when seating. The bearing surface would be bare lead, but I've never gotten leading from them either. As Ian said, the lube will be required to keep fouling soft and prevent chain fires. Never had a chain fire, so it may or may not be for real, but I like lots of lube to keep things gooey until I clean it up.

75% of what the PC does for smokeless is completely unnecessary with BP . Lube takes up most of the rest .
It might make a better scraper on Minie' or maxi balls but you still need the goo . 777 and others might respond better .

My bud does pc w 777. Works great no lube. He wipes between shots. He also has added his bp lube formula after Pc the bullets and shoots that way.....accuracy suffered just a tiny bit compared to just conventional lube or just pc alone.

Hypothetically speaking

38-55 w 777 powder

1 inch 3 shot 100 yd conventional lube
1 inch 3 shot “” powder coated
1 3/4 inch 3 shot “” both lube and pc

This. I don't see PC doing much because you would be shaving off the coating. I have actually used HiTek to coat some round balls and conicals for my ROA for no real reason other than to try it out. As expected I shaved off the part of the bullets with the coating upon seating but they looked good!

if nothing else it could give you that little extra diameter and act as an oxidization barrier.
I have given some thought to using P/C as a diameter adjuster for my patched round balls instead of trying to chase down different thickness of ticking material.
