Primers

So guy's, I let myself get very low on the Fed. 210 LR primers and there are none to be had that I can find anyway. I do have some Remington 9 1/2's and some Fed. LR Mag. I may be able to hold out for a bit in case the Federals become available. For the purpose of conversation what primer would any of you turn to in this situation?

Having a choice, I use CCI's, for the past 50 years. During shortages, I have used various manufactures. Good results with WLP for large bore handguns. What I wont buy anymore are Tula. Bought 5K (SP) and getting 1-2% FTF.........even re-striking again, in a different firearm, doesn't matter.

the rem's are a good replacement with some powders such as rl-19 and 4831.
they cost about double what they should though.
if your just gonnr burn 3031 or 4064 type stuff Winchester generally turns in good groups.
it also works well with 2400 etc.

Rem, cci, win in the order for me.

I use the import primers in plinking loads a lot. Tula, Wolf, s&b all work fine. Haven't had any more duds than the others but, they are a less consistent ignitor. The s&b didn't hold accuracy in a known load with lr primers but, a load rework might have brought it back together.

I know many here like the federals but, I lost a primer from their factory loads years ago & won't buy much from them now.

CCI if I have a choice. Win next. You can't find a Fed. primer around here.

For rifle match loads I use Fed 210M's as all of my loading and testing has been with that primer. Since I only use 4831 in 7MM Mauser and jacketed bullets I keep a few Win LR Mag primers. Most rifle loads are 2400 or faster, so anything works but normally I use Win because they have been available for the last 8 years and Remington and CCI almost impossible to find.

Hunting or serious work, CCI, second is WW.
I have run Wolf,Tula and SB in a lot of ammo. I have chronoed a bunch, never saw any difference that I could point to the primer. Same on accuracy, never saw anything I could point to the primers directly.
I ran across a bunch as in cases and cases (5k), price was as cheap as in the late 80's. I bought all I had cash for, went back and did the same. Thing was it was wolf and it was all large pistol. I had used them prior to this in my CB mil surprise rifle loads. I was told I would pierce primers, never happened one single time in half dozen different calibers and guns. This was about 94-95 and I am down to my last 5k.
My F/TR rifle is fed nothing but match primers.
I hate the term plinking. I expect no less from practice ammo than I do my match ammo.
Maybe I have been lucky with my "off brand" stuff. I don't recall any more problems with them than the name brand stand by primers.

Been using CCI for 50 years (remember the green boxes), WW second choice. Tula SR's worked fine as did the S&B SP during the shortage. Never used rem or fed to any extent.

I often use what I can find. I have had good results with many different primers.
I currently have some CCI, some Win, some Rem, some Fed, and some Tula on hand. Each has a use.

Sort of like Brad, however, I am more than a little unhappy with Win LR, as I have had
two duds out of one box of 100, and a single dud out of 2 others. Never had a dud with
a Rem or CCI. Will not be buying Win any more unless I can get not others.
