QuickLoad and the 414 SuperMag (and cast bullet support?)

After some heavy breathing, looking at a RSI PressureTrace II, I concluded that for almost $600, it was a bit much. After I brewed up a second press of coffee, the higher cognative functions haltingly started.

PressureTrace does not figure out LOADS. So when you are in uncharted territory, you are still without a clue as to reasonable loads. Just stuff the case full 'o Bullseye, cram a 400 grain dangerous game bullet down on it, and pull the trigger on destiny!

NOTE: The previous combination of BE and a monolithic solid is a -JOKE-. The ludicrous combination is utterly outside ANY reasonable load -OR- pressure for this cartridge... Or, FWIW, ANY cartridge.

Back to our normally scheduled broadcast...

So, I scurried back to the wilds of the internet, and looked at a widely known package, QuickLoad. Not bet the house accurate, but close enough....

For those with QL, a few questions:

Does it list the .414 SM? If not, can you extend a 41 Mag out .300 of an inch?
How well does QL support cast bullets? Will length, diameter, and weight be close enough?

I would like to look at the results for 41 Mag loads dropped into a 414. What are the projected pressures for the listed powder/bullet combinations? I'd expect to see some combinations that would (could) produce overpressure, due to the charge/volume/bullet interplay.

Now this is for those that get into deep... tinkering... Is there any useful / significant gain (staying within 36k pressure) that going to a 2" long 414 Savage? Some might suggest using a 405, but the 303 Savage case opened up to .41 is cheaper than 405 brass....

Open your mind, Quade...

.405 Win
Base diameter 0.461 in
Rim diameter 0.543 in
Case length 2.583 in

.414 Savage (similar to the 375 Win, just bigger around!)
Base diameter .434 in
Rim diameter .492 in
Case length 2.000 in

.414 S&W (akin to the cartridges for 460 XVR)
Base diameter .434 in
Rim diameter .492 in
Case length 1.800 in

.414 SuperMag
Base diameter .434 in
Rim diameter .492 in
Case length 1.600 in

.41 Magnum
Base diameter .434 in
Rim diameter .492 in
Case length 1.290 in

.41 Spec
Base diameter .434 in
Rim diameter .492 in
Case length 1.165 in (looking...)

QL isn't really a replacement for the Pressure Trace.
QL approximates pressure date, the Preasure Trace measures it.

The two in conjunction would be the ideal. Use QL to develop loads to test then actually see what they do with the Pressure Trace.

I can say that in many rifle applications with a few tweeks the QL data for velocity matches reality well. In revolvers not so much.

Not too much of a bother, as I'm looking for reasonable loads that won't detonate...
