Reloading die differences between TC ring and TN coating?

As I was berating Lūb Monkey to jerk the Lyman Spart-T press handle faster to create some 41 Rem Mag plated lead lovin, I pondered IF there is a chamber difference between the dies using a TC ring versus those using a TN coating, like Hornady.

My Wilson 41 Rem Mag case gauge is neat-o, but I need to resize over half the case length in order to get the cases to SAAMI spec.

It would depend on the coated die being true to the SAMMI drawing or not . Carbide dies by design size nominal minimum for the full length while a coated reamed die will size only the mouth of the case to that and the rest with a taper . It might only be .002 but the base and mouth will be different dia .

I don't think the material the ring is made of matters, it is the dimensions of the ring that matter.
Hornady can make a TN coated ring out of spec and it won't be near as useful as an in-spec TN coated ring.

And learn to ignore SAAMI spec when sizing cases. If you size enough to hold the bullet and the case chambers then it is good to go. Over sizing cause less accuracy potential and stresses the case more. I partial length size my 44 mag brass and accuracy is better for it.

The one thing I have noticed about TiN Hornady dies, the literally polish the brass
as you size the cases. They are shinier after sizing. Really smooth sizing, too.

What cartridges do you have the Hornady TN dies for? I would like to get a 41 Mag die set that doesn't work everything

Funny you would ask. A friend recently sold his .41 Mag, and I have promised to sell his
Hornady die set for him. If interested, I will get a price from him. They are nearly worn
out though, probably 150 rds loaded with them.

I have sets in several pistol cartridges, .38/.357, .44 Mag, .480 Ruger (got an extra set I
need to sell).

I have Hornady in 357, 9mm, 44 mag, 45 Colt, and 45 ACP all with TiN ring.
How much the brass is worked depends on both the die and the chamber.

I went to Hornady and the Custom Grade (plus American Series) dies use a TiN ring. What I was wondering about is a normal die with TiN coating. The ring is just gonna size the whole length to one OD.

The only pistol cartridge that I am aware of which would suffer from single diam sizing
is the .45 Colt. Use an old set of RCBS steel dies on that one, have to lube the brass, but it
does give a slight bit of taper to the sized cases, less rattle in the cylinders.
