Well...let start by saying ..I will be testing these AND they do have SOME lead in them..

Yesterday one of my scroungers stopped by to tell me that they were cleaning out a Dentist office and found something I might like..I figured it must be a bucket of the lead shields dentist use..

But NO...this is what I found on my desk when I returned from getting coffee this morning...

I THINK I MIGHT HAVE LIKED THIS DENTIST..!!!

Yep ...48 rounds of WRA 54 AP ..bandoleer, card board still in place...remember when these were a dime a dozen..?

Since I sold my six M1's ,I guess I will be using one of the clubs' to "pull " the bullets...:)

Or maybe I should just hold on to it....last one I had was Greek..

Ummm, I don't remember them? I was born in an era when the M16 was new.
I do remember the bandoliers and have fired a Garand.

I like this site. I'm 50 and still a youngster!

I Don't remember them as Dad had traded the Garand about the time I entered kindergarten.

That's really a nice score. A sign, that it's time to buy another Garand.

Don't have the bandoleer, but I do have the belt.

About a yr ago I shipped a pallet of Cal 30 Model of 1906 M2 in clips on bandoilers . 24 boxes at 960 per .
It went to a CMP place in California. There still some around that is as new 1972 .

I remember them well as a young Jarhead, and shot a lot of the black tip AP for qualification between 57-60.

Are the APs, tracers or incendiaries illegal to shoot or possess? Pretty sure I remember my father saying incendiaries were either illegal to possess and/or shoot. How about tracers?

They are banned at ASR and LASC as are steel jackets. Reason being is it is a guaranteed fire anywhere in the mountains surrounding LA.

What Rick said. Any iron-based alloy hitting any granitic-based substance creates what we fire investigators call "The Flintlock Effect". Just slightly less ignition potential than a lit-off road flare in dry brushlands. So--since much of California consists of 1) brush-covered wildlands rooted in 2) decomposed-granite soils, such projectiles/cores have been wisely disallowed since about forever out here.

Tracer or incendiary rounds are similarly prohibited, another good idea in dry, brushy country (most of the State).

You forgot to include the part about . . . "Drier than a popcorn fart". The brush burns just about like a can of gas and takes almost nothing to set it off.

Today topped out at 99 degrees, tomorrow is supposed to exceed 100 with probably zero or near zero humidity. If things weren't dry before, they sure will be now.

Wish I could send you some humidity, we have plenty

Another week or so with our temps and no rain and people will start talking drought. That said, the old farmers
saying of good crops is when the "Corn is knee high by the 4th of July". That is two weeks away, and the corn is
over knee high in some fields here right now, on a pretty tall man. Lawns are turning brown in places as well.

Our corn is finished. Being our first go at growing more than herbs a pepper and maybe a tomato, she under estimated the amount of water they needed. Eight feet tall, but we only got a half dozen ears that were 1/3 the size they should have been.

Based on current pricing of Surplus GI ammo, I'd certainly hold on to it.

Any body ever shoot any API .30 cal? That is a hoot. 6" diam white flash and punches
through about 3/4" of mild steel. Hard on the targets, as it was designed to be.

Apparently used in the Navy rear seat gunner's .30 cals to punch into aircraft and set fire
to the fuel tanks.

Pretty rare to ever see any more.
