I miss Jr. :(

I'm glad his daughter, Kim has been able to keep his site up.

Glad you posted that one. I haven't gone back and read any of his stuff in a while.

I didn’t know Junior, but I’ve read and enjoyed his posts.
I used the .310” balls from Hornady and 4 grs of Bullseye in my 94 30-30 for squirrels.
After it became a 38-55, I use .380” rb and 5 grs of whatever fast burning powder I have around.
Fortunately the Cross Timbers area of North Texas has “No closed season, no bag limit” on the fancy rats.

I did not know him personally either. I did reach out to his daughter, Kim after he passed and we talked several times via e-mail thereafter.

She was surprised and very touched by how many people (perfect strangers) had contacted her after Jr. passed. She'd surely appreciate an e-mail now and then stating some of the things posted in this thread. She has been keeping the site up as a memorial to her dad and asking nothing in return from those of who benefit from its continued existence, but she sure appreciates hearing how much people appreciated his work and her efforts to keep it available.

I've always liked Jr's low-tech approach regarding shooting, hand-loading and casting. It falls right into line with my own idea of doing as well and as much as I can with as little as possible. I don't shoot quarter-inch groups at 200 yards, but the challenge of squeezing out better than "hunting accuracy" is very gratifying.

That is quite an article indeed. The most interesting element to me was the excursion taken by WC-820 powder between 0.7 cc and 1.0 cc--almost doubled velocity! Another caveat concerning low-density loads with spherical/ball powders, right there in black & white.

I must be the old maid then.
Tried it once and didn’t like it.
Had no joy at all.
But ask me about the Lee soupcan and I’ll sing you a sweet song.

Seems a popular idea, none the less.

My own personal experience has been that a RB will not be as accurate or get the range a longer bullet will. I've tried it in several guns/chamberings, including revolvers, and it wasn't ideal. Maybe someone who does not cast and handload could benefit from it, but with what a primer costs today, I'm more inclined to send a "soupcan" exactly where I ant it, at least out to 50 yards for the expenditure of precious primer and powder.

Not to detract from Jr's work though - he has a number of other article on casting/handloading for the 30/30 and 357 Mag, which are very useful.
