Ruger American rimfire guidance wanted

So, I've gotten the suppressor bug. Today, I bought a ruger american 18" rifle in 22lr., based on recomondations from friends who have them. One hasn't used his with a suppressor but the one who does swears by cci standard velocity. I'd like to stick with subsonic although I have a metric boatload of supers I bought a few years ago when they were a little cheaper.
Does anyone have any experience with subs in this rifle?

I have NO experience with suppressors because it takes forever to get one. I bought and paid for mine last June! Still haven’t got it!

I have the 17hmr version with the shorter barrel. Looking at picking up a DA Mask. Friends who have this in 22lr stick with standard velocity stuff and a good scope. Very quiet!

"they say" Yeah we know what "they say " is worth, that the new efile system may be as short as 60 days. Yeah, we'll see how that goes.

Filing as an individual instead of a trust or corporation is a lot faster no matter which way you go.

If it has more than about 5" of barrel you'll need "standard velocity" .22 Long Rifle. Marketing departments started slapping "Subsonic" labels on the standard velocity loads years ago. There's plenty of subsonic offerings made just for suppressors, too, I have about 6-7 brands and they all work as advertised in rifles. Most all the bulk stuff is high velocity and will crack from a rifle barrel.

You have two separate issues going on there:
1. If you want to avoid the "crack" from a supersonic projectile, the bullet needs to exit the muzzle below the speed of sound.
2. You want the round to deliver decent accuracy.

I have generally found standard velocity 22 rimfire ammo to be the most accurate but every gun/ammo combination is different.
Not all standard velocity 22LR will be subsonic, so you will have that issue to deal with. In addition, the speed of sound varies with air temp. So, a round that is subsonic on a hot day may not be subsonic on a cold day.
Standard Velocity should be around 1070fps, and therefore subsonic at about 68 degrees. However, not all standard velocity ammo will fit that criterion.

You're going to have to test what you have. Until then, it's all academic.

:headscratch: Sounds like a whole lot of diminishing returns for some noise reduction. I'll stick with my electronic ear protection.

No silencers here, but I have shot them.
But LOVE my Ruger American 22 Mag. Mine is a shortened 22" thats now 17" and re threaded bore concentric. A number of friends have silencers. Winchester makes/made a 45g lead hp subsonic load. Thats a dandy!

I also shoot supers. Diff is they aint as quiet! But still more quiet then without.

I saw a demo on a fresh hog body at 100 yd with a 6.8SPC . Meat impacts were -1 to +2 db while hard bone impacts were were +5-7db from the bullet crack and muzzle report through a suppressor with standard loads . 107-115 db sticks in my mind . Standard muzzle noise ran about 165 as I recall .

The standby 30s run 186-203 db I think ........ Been a long time . Any time you can get them down the closed breach 22 LR pistol or less it's a good thing for both hearing and fatigue .

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
In my case, there is no practical reason other than "I want that". The same could be said for any of my firearms related purchases except for concealed carry.
See, that makes perfect sense to me. I getcha. I thought maybe there was some noise reduction purpose r something that your area required.
