EDC?

Got a 7 1/2" .357 BH....it's very clean, less than 500 rds through it.Even got an especially nice John Bianchi period correct holster.

There's an extremely nice poster on a Colt forum,Red Knickels (sp).Anyway,he's been a major player in holster world for 40 pr so years. He tells me to get "John's" book....John Bianchi, sumthin sumthin...It's around here somewhere. So I get on Amazon used books and find it,3$ plus shipping...."send it".

I get it,and it's a bloom'n autographed copy...doh.Red,was the man at not only JB's shop for ,well, forever. He's designed/built some THE most famous holster art to ever be created.

So,yeah....I got the right holster.

So,this rig has not only never seen a factory load, there's never been a JB down the pipe.It shoots 158g gc loads so well,it'll humble any miss.

But,the as issued Fr site looks like dog doo doo.So I milled/filed it off.Mounted a slightly modified Williams ramped rifle sight.Basically milling the "post" part to my visual specs.Lived large for 25 years.

Fast FWD....the sight is undergoing it's next evolution.Am milling the post off,and converting it to a swap out, replaceable post.

Using one of those plastic light gathering sights...whatever they're called.Anyway, really looking FWD to carrying it on our tractor.Perfect compliment to the onboard '06 M77 ultra lite.Stay tuned

The autographed book is a pretty good score . I dunno about period correct holsters .........of course I'm no purist either so all I can say to that is all leather works and some of it looks good doing it but ya sure feel bad when the pretty stuff gets barked the first time .

When I was a teenager just beginning to drive, I did a significant amount of that driving between San Bernardino and San Diego for ocean fishing. The city now known as "Temecula" was barely a wide spot in the road, with a turn-off east toward Aguanga and a fork north toward Perris. It was there that John Bianchi located his holster factory. Bianchi was the only employer of any note for some distance, and a number of the mechanics and millwrights in this area worked for Bianchi at one time or another, between jobs on the silos and elevators that were part of the landscape in this dry-farmed grainfield environment. Much has changed over those 45 years, with Spanish tile rooflines replacing most of the grain fields and stock farms. Bianchi is still there, though.

Harter, both BH and holster are '81.

Thanks 9.3,very interesting.Reading about....start up efforts of great American sporting co.s ....has been very inspirational to say the least. Then getting notes from folks like you and Red Nickols makes it even closer to home.....if that makes sense?

Gonna peck around with the mill today.Been working too hard the last few days.I mentioned BH's to a customer friend. So he brings out an extremely minty 4 1/2" three screw 357,that looks almost unshot.....and goes"you mean this"?

Didn't know Bianchi was local to us AL. My Sam Browne and most of the accoutrements on it, including the holster for my 1911, were/are Bianchi.
Rest of my leather-goods came from Pony Express Sport Shop or made by my father. Dad was, for a short time, a saddle-maker and silversmith for Edward H. Bohlin.

This is all the fancy leather I own .
It was made by a member on a BP forum as a 2nd prize in a monthly honor lottery . IMG_20161129_054125976.jpg

Good one RB!

Not to be name,forum? dropping....but,

What can I say,we got a bunch of Colts...so hangin out on a Colt forum is sort of de riguer? It was on there that, how dang bad arse holsters are.Red is a living genius on the matter....words,pics, just doesn't do justice to the subject. He's a walking encyclopedia.Much like members here on casting/shooting/engineering,just sayin of course.

Nope . Riff raff . It is a very loose forum initially dedicated to BP revolvers but none of that high brow attitude about my Colt signature is better than your Pietta wannabe . BP is BP no matter where or what the ignition source is . Several members have some very nice equipment and collections . Lots of us just drive them . Modern guns are welcome too . Just good old boys down in gunslingers gulch .

Yeah I hear ya on the drama....(insert Art N Science plug,HERE)....

Holsters seem to bring a " normal'cy" to the handgun experience.I hate Glocks.....there,I said it.No wait,I'd rather have my MIL's baseball bat than a glock....need more?

But somehow holsters even make "them" tolerable,well...almost haha.

This here is by far the nicest holster I own. Custom made by a friend of mine, because I couldn't find a left handed leather holster for my FNX45.

None of my "gunwraps" are fancy--they got used pretty strenuously, so having them gussied up made little sense. After retirement, I didn't change things much--one fancy holster gifted by a friend got snagged by Marie to carry "Lucy" with. ("Lucy" = SIG P-228, also ripped off by LOML. Whatta brat!)

Most of our deputies' webgear now is black nylon, which is lighter in weight AND can be decontaminated if exposed to a drug lab chemical-infested environment. Yes, my County had and has that many of them. Leather cannot be de-conted, it retains those nasty elements--so it goes into the haz-mat bin along with the chems and other evil stuff. Same story with wooden handgun grips--neoprene can be de-conted, wood cannot. Into the bin they go if exposed.

Whatever 9.3,

I'll take the 228...but,give me leather. We(officers, homeboys)all got different requirements....

Heck man,we can sew either here..nylon is,"floppy".Make mine leather. And given the choice,it's cross draw.Just sayin.

Shootnlead, not sure how to answer "you"?

In my world, historic preservation wrt architecture plus antiques....period correct is a pretty easy to understand concept. One that IMO applies nicely to the OP.

But if you are looking for a discussion on "diversity" and how that applies.....we should all try to get along or what's wrong with shoving a single action in a Kydex holster......then,I can't answer"you".

Buy the book,Blue Steel & GUNLEATHER.There's a SBH on the cover.

I think in this case a simple slick side with a snap throng or an old school LEO basket weave supporting at a the muzzle and a semi fitted cylinder support area of a classic 70s style is the reference. In opposition to sticking a dead stock low mileage S&W in charge 1918 1917 into a 1986 Bianchi basket weave for a 6" Highway Patrolman or heaven forbid Kydex . Taken a little further would a model 10 target look right in a Texas jock strap holster ?
