Marie and I have been adopted by a neighborhood cat that makes the rounds through the tract we live in. We are right at the edge of San Timoteo Canyon's west end, so a feral cat has some hazards to deal with hereabouts--mostly from coyotes, but raccoons show up with regularity too. He/she is a large mostly white cat with gray spots, and his her routine has been to show up about 2 P.M. most days--get a drink from the backyard bird bath, and take a 1-hour nap on the patio furniture or under one of the backyard shrubs.

I have two, Murphy the shop cat and Beemer (black) who is my velcro cat. My wife has a Russian Blue (dilute calico) who showed up and stole her heart. Her name is Peaches.

Most experts will tell you that cats don’t like to have their bellies rubbed. Not this guy!

He had fleas when he was a kitten. I used to flea comb him, and he got used to being on his back. Now it’s his preferred position when getting pets.

The rescue road cat, (Whiskey), started sleeping in our bedroom on a sweatshirt I had tossed on the floor when I went to bed one night. So I kind of fluffed it up in a circle and sure enough he'd sleep on it every night. We decided to improve it by cutting off the sleeves, putting in a layer of quilt batting and sewing up the waist, neck, and sleeve openings. But we made a mistake. We washed it first. Yeah he has slept on it a few times since, but I never wore it again obviously. So last night I got up in the middle of the night and there he is sleeping on the sweaty wool socks I wore all day yesterday while working the syrup. Right next to the nice little bed pad we made for him. Cats.

My friend’s dog likes to roll around in raccoon excrement. He related to us the story of how this particular dog was let out through the bedroom french doors one evening right before bed. So, after fifteen minutes his wife calls for her doggy. He rushes by her and deposits himself right in the middle of their king sized bed. And then they smell it! This happened a few times. Then they chase the dog all over the room and poop gets on everything. The husband’s job after the second time it happened, was to leash up the dog right before bed when it was potty time, rain or shine.

I’ll take a cat who likes stinky socks any day, over a poop covered dog.

Yeah, my pooch thinks Bambi poop makes great perfume. I think she finally got the idea though, She really hates getting a bath outside with ice water from the hose which is just what she gets.
