Sierra Bullet Question

I never could get Nosler Partitions to shoot well. Not saying they will not shoot well, just saying I had bad luck with them.

I've always had good luck with Sierra, both their target bullets and the game bullets.
Hornady has also performed well and it is my second choice when Sierra's are not available.

I never got as good accuracy from a Nosler Partitions as Hornady or Nosler solid bases....but I was always able to get better than 2 moa in the three rifles I tried them in. Certainly good enough for my big game hunting.
When I was trying to get Barnes to work in my 7mm Rem Mag. they were nothing but disappointing. Accuracy was just horrible and I started getting sticky bolt lifts way before other bullet designs (I was trying to use 150 Barnes in lieu of my trusted 162 BTSP Hornady) I could drive the heavier Hornady a full 200fps faster with moa accuracy and could never beat 3 1/2 moa with the Barnes. These were the old Barnes solids before the relief cuts (lube grooves?). After going through 2 boxes of the very expensive solids experimenting with seating depth and even trying Barne's recommendations for long jump to rifling I gave up on the things. The Hornady interlock has been my go to since then.

I have always found Sierra bullet to be extremely accurate but a bit fragile. Of late I have been finding the same with some Hornady bullets.

The Hornady Interlock has been my go to for deer and antelope hunting in several calibers. Since they've don away with some of my favorites I've move on to others, mostly Speer Hot Core. I've had good luck getting Partitions to work, sometimes took playing with seating depth, sometimes a faster powder. With the open base faster powders seem to help obturate the Partition.
I haven't used one of the tipped variety of Barnes, just the older ones. I'm not usually a shoulder shooter, maybe a holdover from archery. Lung shot deer with TSX bullets seemed to travel further than what I was used to so I went back to the Interlock at that time.

Anyone have any field experience with the Hornady ELD-X on game?
I really like the ELD-M for long range target work.

I hope to be able to report on the ELD-X in the near future. Shoots lights out in my Bergara HMR. Lot's of good bullets mentioned above. I've had excellent results with Sierra's, Barnes TTSX and lately the Nosler Accubonds. 140 grain Accubonds out of my 280 AI kill like hot lightning!

I have a pretty good load for my Bergara B-14 Hunter in .30-06 using a 180gr Accubond.

Accubond is a good bullet. Some of the Ballistic Tips have heavier jackets and act more like Accubonds, particularly those over 30 caliber. Among the heavy jackets are the 100 gr 25, the 120 and 150 7mm. There are others, I just don't remember them.

Same here Partitions have never been "as accurate" as many others, but plenty accurate.

Sierra, Hornady, Speer & Barnes. In that order Softest ta hardest. Nosler separate as some BT are very soft others "normal" and Part & Accubonds TOUGH! My preferred Whelen bullet is a Nosler 225 g Accubond & RL15 @ 2600+ fps. They hold together. Never recovered one and always see Quarter ta golfball exits.
