Congratulations Ben.

I have the 625 PC model with a 4" barrel. It is one of my favorite range guns. A gallon bucket full of loaded moon clips will leave a smile on your face that lasts all day. And since you don't have a slide to operate, you can load them very light or heavy. A wonderful purchase in my opinion.

Thanks,

Yrs. ago, I owned an older Model 25, .45 ACP and in a moment of temporary insanity, I sold it. I've always regretted that sale.

LGS has a used JM 625-8 for $1000.00 I had a 25 in 45 ACP many years ago and I could not get it to shoot worth a darn, got rid of it, should have kept it.

Having to use those clips has never been my idea of fun. Tried it with our Colt 1917 and quickly bought 100 of the rimed version 45 brass.
Tried a couple years later with our S&W 1917 and got the same opinion fast. Just me I recon.
Now the 45 rimed in those revolvers to me is as a revolver should be.

I forgot to mention, I suppose you already have a moon clip tool, but if you don't I would recommend the BMT Mooner tool. I have several moon clip loading tools, but after purchasing a BMT I haven't touched the others since. You just drop the rounds in the feeder slot and turn the handle to load them into the clip. And you flip it over and turn the handle to remove the cases. Very useful tool.

After I first posted, I imagined you pushing them in with a pair of channel locks, trying to stay ahead of how fast Trevor will be emptying them. :)

THAT is a VERY FAMILIAR-LOOKING REVOLVER. 95% of my shooting with it gets done with Starline Auto Rim brass, but I have about 2 dozen full-moon clips, both steel and polymer. The polymer don't require tools to install and remove ACP cartridges, but the steel clips make the mooner and de-mooner a real nice acquisition. The mooner is from Dillon, the de-mooner is a golf club handle cut to fit around a fired case with a 1/8" notch cut from about 1/3 to 1/2 of its edge.

A S&W Performance Center engineer could design an optional spring-finger ejector star in an afternoon if they wanted to.

The S&W Model 940 had such gizmoes. They were not an unqualified success (dirt sensitivity). People seem abundantly happy to use moon clips, even in wheelguns that don't require them (like 357 Magnums) for some perceived or actual refilling advantage. I got funny looks when I spoke of my preference for Auto Rim ammo/brass to feed the 625 with at the time I bought it.

Before buying my PC 625 last year, I thought the End-All/Be-All S&W Revolver was my 1989-vintage Model 16-4 x 6" (32 H&R Magnum). This 625 of mine is easily as good accuracy-wise, and has a better D/A stroke than the 16-4. The 625's single-action trigger is THE BAR-NONE BEST I have ever used. It is that good.

The S&W N-frame was built around the 44 Special cartridge originally. Cartridges of that class just work wonderfully in a revolver of this size, and the 45 ACP/AR fits that spec perfectly. (So does the 45 Colt, in its black-powder ballistics form--250-260 grain bullet in the 900 FPS ballpark).

Agree entirely. My Mod 25 in 45 Colt shoots very well. A 255 gr bullet at 850-900 FPS leaves a lasting impression on the target.
