Because we're going to get the youngest (20 years old very soon) driving and he'll use Mom's Suburban, I'm going to put a heavy duty bumper & grill guard on the front. We have a fairly good population of deer here in northern AR and not all have learned that they're only supposed to cross the road at the "deer xing" signs. While I've only had one close call and that was about 30 miles west of Harrison, AR, we do have the occasional literal "deer in the headlights" encounter between home and town. Maybe a 265 lb. bumper/grill guard will decrease the odds of one of us ending up as bad off as the deer.

last year had two Bambi road kills (not by me) up on the highway, they both survived long enough to make it to my front yard. Took one over to John's & dumped out in the woods. Other one I dragged with the ATV over to the west side of my property. Critter's made short order of them both.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
IME investigating car/deer accidents, some grill guards (cow catchers) help and some don't. The fancy schmancy ones that are raked back and look like they belong on a race car tend to throw the deer onto the hood and sometimes into the windshield and sometimes over the roof. The more vertical ones tend to absorb a lot more impact and sometimes end up smashing up a lot of sheet metal. In light hits they work pretty good if they are stout enough and anchored well. I've seen some on tractor trailers smashed back through the radiator! Speed at the time of impact is the biggie IMO.

More fencing today. Went out and cut an 8 inch ironwood stretcher 9 foot long for a cross brace between posts. Wasn't paying attention and dropped that sucker on my head! Fortunately I was wearing an old felt fedora type hat which did little to cushion the blow but did keep me from getting cut up. At least it hit me in the head and not someplace important...

Picked up a front end for one of the basket case tractors here and then stopped for grain. I don't know who vented about current events more, me or the feed dealer. At least now we both know we aren't alone!

My Garage sale was today. Long day...but I got rid of a lot of tools and stuff. I will sleep well tonight.
Tomorrow will be a trip to get rid of the rest...Goodwill, Recycling place, Metal recycler, and the County household hazardous waste site.
That only leaves one thing, of all the garage sale stuff, to deal with...an old Oxy-Propane torch kit with several cylinders...It'll probably sell on the book of faces...maybe I sell the cylinders separate and just trash the kit?

We had a cardiologist appt. today; in at 2 PM, out at 5:30 PM. She's shown some improvement in left ventricle function (ejection fraction). Not enough to go without a defibrillator. The Cardio-Electro-Physiologist who comes up from Little Rock every two weeks suggested that, as she's been on a new med for 2 months and it could take 6 to 9 months to see the potential of that med, might be a good idea to evaluate her again in 3 more months.

Broke in a new service manager today. I think this one might not be completely worthless, we'll see. Myself and the only other remaining technician surprised the GM yesterday in his office and explained that since his only salesman quit last week and his only lube tech quit three weeks ago, if he didn't want us to quit too and fold the franchise he'd better do something about the useless service manager and idiot service writer that are driving the whole place into the dirt...immediately. I do believe we made an impression.

Found Out I lost a Dear friend and Comrade today! He passed away on my birthday May 11th.
He was an integral part of my "old gang" at Keystone College Observatory when we were staring it up for the College ( 1973-1977)
An incredible mathematician, scholar, & Horticulturist ! Robert ( Bob) Warren!
I last spoke to him on March 7th after the death of The Observatories' Curator!
He was in good spirits and looking forward to this year's planting season! Told me he feels like he will live to be 100 !
Funny how 2 months can change everything! A very melancholy day for me!

Lost a brother-in-law, Kenny, last Saturday. Killed in an UTV/side by side accident. He was the passenger and his son-in-law was the driver.
Kenny was a great guy. I've known him since we were both teens, chasing after the sisters that we ended up marrying.
He's the first of our generation that our family has lost, other than one of my brothers.
The funeral and celebration of life is tomorrow, followed by interment on Saturday.
It's been kind of a hard week to get through.

Taking the wife to get a rental car today, hers was pretty much totaled when she was hit in the rear yesterday evening while siting still by a distracted driver going full bore. It was her first new car and only had 20K on it but now it's a pile of junk, she and the other driver are doing fine just sore a bruised up a bit.
Ooh man that blows!!! Similar here with my wife some years back. 47,000 I spent on a 1999 Grand Cherokee limited as a Christmas present for my wife. In almost two years she only had about 15/16K and was T bones and rolled 5 times by a sno bird who wasnt supposed to be driving.
Thank Jesus for that Jeep and a honest bystander who whitnessed the whole thing.
They claimed she ran a light and they claimed there 30 yr old son was driving. My wife was badly shaken and couldnt remember anything. Like you say bumped and brused. Her o ly injury was from a Fireman who cut her elbow extracting her drivers door but the pass door opened fine.
Very glad to read she is ok!! Vehicles can be replaced thats what insurance is for life is precious. ♥️♥️♥️♥️
God Bless, CW

Keep on keeping on. Reminds me of an old TV/movie. Farmer having a rough time, keeps on plowing behind the horse/mule - rests under a tree and dies from heart failure. Life goes on, the body doesn't. We miss our friends and relatives though. My H.S. class is down 25%.
Going to the kid's ranch tonite, got to finish putting the thrower together and want to test cfe pistol flash suppressant. She wasn't going to go, now is, so she can harass me on the way down. Seems like they want the 'flavor' to last. SIL is having the boy scouts for a clay shoot.
