Would be rated the same in Michigan.....Only problem is sheet metal and parts are a hell of lot harder to find on an IH than a Ford or Chevy. I always wanted a Scout. After rebuilding a junker CJ-7 hardtop that I could walk into from any direction without opening a door or window, the thought of doing an old IH is too much. Parts for Jeeps most anywhere, not so much the IH.

Found a donor vehicle with perfect sheet metal already- just distance and $ holding me back!

What do you guys think- "Hester the Harvester" or "Connie the Cornbinder"? And for those of you not in the rust belt, that is what qualifies as a very solid truck for the age in Northern NY!
Just this AM I saw a VERY SOLID Jeep (Gladiator looking) Full size pick up THAT WAS NOT RUSTED OUT!!
I should have stopped as it was for sale. Probably restored. But VERY NICE LOOKNG!! Probably mid late 1970's.

Hit the Big River again today. Photo is of a large mouth bass that was an incidental catch. I was tossing small plastics while my buddy was using a jig and a piece of crawler for perch. I caught a 27" Northern, that bass, and several perch including the jumbo of the day just over a foot long on a 1/16 oz. jig with a crappie slider plastic tail.

California's Central Coast Amid The Insanity
Had a 1 1/2 hour wait to see the family doc for the annual handshake. Well, what used to be a handshake till the advent of the Chinese flu eliminated that gentlemanly gesture.

Told his assistant that I wasn't going to answer the privacy-invading CDC questions that are part of the annual wellness visit. Questions that have nothing to do with my health, such as does my house have stairs, are their handrails next to the stairs, does my tube/shower enclosure have grab handles, etc. I know that gun ownership is a question, but I don't know of a smart-alecky answer. Which candidates I voted for may be a question, as well.

Rick I know they are more of a challenge, a LOT more, but it's as close as I'm likely to get to what I really wanted. Everybody wants a Power Wagon, they've gone through the roof. No one wants an International for precisely the reasons you stated- parts are rare. But, it's a 3/4 ton, 4wd, with a 6 banger and a trans that will handle a PTO for a winch. Plus, it's about as original as you can get. Outside of the plow frame (dealer installed at purchase),roof light and a couple lights up front it's bone stock. Fits my desires at this point.

Jeeps, yup, got 5 here. 2 CJ5's (59 and 61 IIRC), an '83 CJ8 Scrambler, a '97 and '99 Wrangler. You can pretty much build a new CJ from the ground up off the internet if you have enough $$$!!!!

Rolled up more hay today. Hot and humid! Love it!

if I still had my IH parts collection I'd mail you a fender.
luckily most parts from 5 years before and about 10 years after will fit, and if your creative you can figure the little stuff out.
if you need to do a rebuild some V-8 parts will work on the engine internals, the electrical stuff and sending units are pretty much interchangeable too.

If you don't have it, try to get a copy of the line setting ticket. It will come in handy at times figuring stuff out. the Wisconsin Historical Society has the McCormick/International Harvester Corp. Archives. Last I knew, for $20 they'd look up your serial number, copy/print the microfilm, and send it to you.

Around here, if someone were going to come up with an alliterative name, they'd probably call it "Bernice the Binder".

look on the backside/top of the glove box, some were under the seat, and I've seen some of the early 70's trucks have them on the passenger side sun visor.

I've got the Line Ticket, original owners manual and even the original paperwork for the Fisher 4 way plow. That's another plus- the plow, a 4 way, on a truck with a cab and heat! I've been plowing for 30 years with an a open CJ5. I'll have to get a pic of that beauty!

Wish you still had the parts Fiver!

Uh, no. Thanks for thinking of me though. Still want that 1899 barrel with the tie rod welded to it? It makes installation a snap and you can just torch it off when done. I guarantee it will shoot 3" or bigger groups at 25 yards.

I waited 3 yr for a 35-250 to come up , not for sale . Just so you're ready for the wait .

Worked Wednesday night ......I learned posture is important to breathing and the protective hunch to protect the injury isn't any help for that .

Ran the tractor yesterday loading logs ......also a bad idea I did get 3-3.5 cords of 6' pieces of oak on 2 trailers .......went to bring the tractor home little bugger won't start ......last time it was a battery cable thing .....

Took College Boy to Springfield Airport Wed. He's back on the "left-ist coast" now. This will be his last year of undergrad studies. He's at work today at one of the campus research libraries.
He had a big grin on his face as he shot the Garand the day before he left.

While in Springfield we picked up about $1,000 worth of meats at Sam's.
That will likely be the last time we shop at Sam's Club, as Costco Springfield will open in another week or so and Costco Little Rock is already open.
