After 4 years of wrangling, gov't red tape, delays and disappointments our projected 10,000 feet of woods roads are going in starting today! Forester/road designer and the equipment operator have been in the woods for about 5 hours. I spent 3 hours mowing trails and bush hogging on the neighbors land that allowed the equipment to start on my project from the top down. Now I just hope Sue and I stay healthy enough to enjoy these trails for a few years.

Last two egg plants of the season ...Roasted them on the hot coals until they collapse last night & spent a number of hours making "Baba Ganoush" today from scratch...making my own Tahini
Jury is still out but Chef says it wasn't wort the time I spent!
Rather eat hummus. It probably was the fact that the eggplants were big and the seeds did not process!
Moussaka would have been better...but I did not want to tackle Béchamel Sauce
Wife is away on a vacation with her sister! Thought it gives me good chance to experiment!
Think I'm going to the big Indian restaurant In Scranton and have a spicy Goat dish tomorrow!

I’ve been spending a lot of time loading jacketed bullets for the 7mm-08. So, tonight I mixed it up and put together some plinkers for the 30-30. A 311291 w/GC over 15 grains of 2400.

I have started to pack these old Herter’s 12 gauge boxes with rifle ammo. They will hold 50 rounds.

go with the curried goat if possible.... I love that stuff.

I been keeping the lids down on the boxes the last few nights, and even with the near freezing temps I got some new flowers on the Egg plants I was just about to pull out......doubt anything will come of it, but i'll let them run their course.

I beat the lettuce plants that went to seed down in the one box and now there's about 7-800 plants in there.
think i'l let them get about 3-4"s tall and start pulling the leaves, I figure about late October they will either be eaten or frozen solid... LOL.
but I should have some tomatoes to go with them by then.

Been prepping all the 7Mag brass I got from a friend. It seems once fired in that no evidence if trimmed and very little trim needed (Fed Brass) there was some RP and every piece needed trim also jagged flash holes!!
All 300 ish pieces completely prepped including annealing.
I wanted to see if the MPress was able to size a d I wanted to check runout. Nope... Cant locate the stony point gauge... Musta lent it. I gotta stop that. Anyhow new supposed to be here today so I can check. But with light pressure on shell plate it wont chamber in the rifle. I have been warned of excessive cam over on this press. So Im weary... But moderate cam over allowed a "crush" bolt close. Slight more cam on the press, and the bolt closed as I like, with some contact, but positive closure.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.

I don't know your exact circumstances or location, but hearing someone has to go through that to have a woods road makes me grateful I live where I do!

A month ago, my Buddy swapped a 460 revolver for a bolt action rifle in 458 WM, I can't remember the rifle brand? But it's a heavy one.

Years ago, I had been given some once fired 458 brass, I was gonna sell it, but I put it in my scrap bin, due to a line in each case, that I thought was a crack.

Last month, right after the swap, when my buddy asked me to load him some ammo. While I no longer had 458 dies, I did remember that brass in the scrap bin (which never gets emptied), inspected it again and decided that line/crack was fairly uniform. So I sized 4 cases (with 45-70 dies), then I expanded the 4 mouths, figuring the line/crack would better identify itself. Well, I decided after sizing/expanding 4 cases that the line was just a line, and loaded up the 4 cases with a 383 gr RN GC bullet (sized to .459 and SL68B lube), and a moderate charge of 3031 (60gr), Book says that's about 1900fps and likely about 35Kcup. All 4 rds chambered easily in the gun. My Buddy says I will be the first to pull the trigger, as he watched my redneck ways of loading those 4 rounds...and didn't fully trust 'em. Also, I interpullated that charge from 45-70 data, because I couldn't find any data for the 458 that I liked with a 383gr RN...My Buddy said that isn't the way you use data. I laughed.

Fast forward to last night, Gun Club meeting.
We get there early, with hopes of shooting the 458.
I had forgot my prescription shooting glasses, so the sights were all fuzzy, plus the sun was setting and we were in the woods, so it was plenty dark. I load it with one of my redneck loads, and shoot it in the pistol pit (25 yds), I aim for the Bull and hit 4 inches high. The recoil wasn't punishing, about the same as a 12ga pump action with trap loads. I load a factory round (510gr) in the chamber, and pull the trigger...YEOWZA, I felt that and am still Black and blue this morning. I aimed at the same Bull, and hit 1/2" away from the hole the 383gr cast bullet made. While that was only 25 yds, Those two shots were either just luck, since the sight picture was so fuzzy, or my redneck loads were pretty damn good.

My buddy and another club member took a couple shots, and said, that was enough for them, LOL.

Another club member said those shots rousted a dozen wild turkeys in the Clubs back yard (AKA: the 200 yd range, which is surrounded by large trees), they were likely getting ready for a nighttime roost.

She asked yesterday if I would like to go shooting. What? Going shopping for shoes or something? Nope. OK, I went today, cva BO and 40 sw. CVA didn't do very good with cast, ordered a thumbhole stock for it. Helped a newby with the 3 shot scope align, talked to another guy with a 30-378 weatherby rifle that shot for crap. 7$ a rnd. 40sw did fine. Guys come in next to me, bullpup shotgun and dove loads (smooth bore) Dang LOUD. They did have fun. Then B-I-L calls, got some dive weights for me if I want (50#), yup. Now to see why the garage door opener doesn't work all the time. Also found you don't need a hunting lic. for hogs on private land, starting THIS YEAR.

I am resting today it has been and will continue to be a busy week. One trip to Cardiologist and two to the Oncologist. The next trip will be to the Oncologist for the Moderna (Covid) booster. I am seriously immunocompromised and the first two shots probably did little or no good, as I was in the middle of chemo when I took them. The booster may provide a little protection. Sorry anti-vaxxers, I am just trying to stay alive. Without some protection, I am a prime candidate for the crematorium should I get the Kung Flu! A couple of dozen people I know have died from that stuff. Yep, I know allot of old folks, because I am one.

I'm feeling a bit roughed up.
I took the 4 wheeler out for a ride today.
12 one way miles, and I didn't even get to the end of the 'road' I wanted to go down.
[by road I mean 2 track that's about 55"s wide and is half on bedrock]
I'm pretty sure it eventually drops down behind a big chunk of private property, which is next to a ranch that runs a deer and elk hunting operation.

I think the wheeler actually has too much torque, you can feel it try to throw you off the back when your on a hill, or if you goose it in the mud.
I know it'll drag an ELK up a 20+% grade no problem though.
I think I will take another day or two and ride all the way back down to the bottom.
and then check out the other trail that cut's back down towards town, if the second road comes out where I think it does I should be able to just drive up there from the house.

I gotta see it.
just cause google shows a road there don't mean it's even remotely passable [even on foot]
I run into 2 different ones like that today, one of them I have hiked in on at least 8-9 times in the past, now your better off hiking up the ridge line from the bottom.
