The last time I spent a night in Vegas traffic was tied up on the Strip for an car v pedestrian alcohol involved fatality .
The pedestrian was drunk and jumped a curb barrier got hit by a car going 25/35 . The driver was 0.0 the walker was .18 , 2.5x DUI/DWI .

Wasted another day with kids , school , and work .

Both feet on top , breathing on my own , dry bed , full belly .
Can't ask for a lot more .

Big to-do in the neighborhood. A 110-plus year old oak tree, that is on city property and located between our house and the next door neighbor's, has been in the process of dying, for many years, and it lost an 18" to 20" diameter limb two nights ago.

This morning Urban Lumberjacks arrived and in five hours everything 18" in diameter and less was fed through a chipper and became sawdust, while the bigger stuff was craned into a dump truck. We've live with the tree for 45 years and it's going to take a lot of getting used to it being gone.

Once an old tree starts to go that way it becomes a liability and if its on public property its gonna come down, sad as that might be. We've had to take down several large old trees that were rotting from the inside out, some didn't take much to come down. Was there any way to get any firewood?

The tree'd been dying for many years, the city cut off a few easy to reach branches three or four years ago and said it needed to come down then, the neighbors paid an arborist to remove some stuff last year, and it's upheaved and cracked the sidewalk in several places. It was its time.

The oaks in front of our house, as seen in the background in the last picture, are healthy, but there are some branches that I need to remove.

Nope, no firewood for me, but the neighbors got dome. I gave up splitting wood by hand, especially oak, after my last haul of oak and cypress. The neighbors -- twin brothers -- are cheaters and use a hydraulic splitter, though they are 10 years younger than I am. Wusses.

I note that in some countries the fines are often based on income. 1.5 to 3 months income, which might even make the rich think twice. a 10-15k$ fine is nothing to someone making half a mil a year.
Yes, that's true. But how is that equal treatment under the law? That's akin to the system we have here in NYS where in police involved deaths and use of force, it isn't the local prosecutor that makes the decisions on prosecution- it's the State Atty Gen. And as it happens they are elected officials who often use the office for a step into the Governors office. Spitzer and Cuomo both did that and the current AG, who is running for Gov, is charging a Trooper who prevented many people from injury or death by stopping a fleeing driver, but the guys kid was not seat belted and died in the accident. The Trooper is white and the AG and BG are black, perfect set up these days. Or look at Alec Baldwin- not one of us would be walking free if we'd shot and killed someone! You can't have 2 (or more) sets of rules based on income, skin tone, political affiliation, etc. Your idea is what civil courts are for, not criminal courts.

Texas just increases the fine for DUI each time. If you don't got the $ some lawyer just gets you off by a 'need to drive to keep job' plea.
We had one judge who had a guy with his 18th Felony DWI in front of him some time back. He got a 15 year sentence. THAT is something that gets peoples attention. Okay, 1st offense they get a reduced charge and heavy fine. 2nd offense no reduction and painful fine, maybe jail. 3rd DWI/DWAI Drugs? Prison. THAT would send the message!

And without getting political deliberately, the whole "soft on crime thing" is why we see the things going on around us that we do.

Got my tires yesterday. Have a "Honey-do" list today that includes running power for the community Christmas display. I don't know why I never remember this immediately after Thanksgiving, but I don't and am always late getting it done.

I loathe government excess, and taxes, and like my liquor. That all said, my last LE gig involved a lot of transports to and from prisons, jails, and courts. I met hundreds of inmates during those last 13 years. There we some, not many but some that would have benefitted society by simply ceasing to exist. Evil bastards with no redeeming qualities. Fortunately they are few and far between. The saddest cases are the alcoholics and drug dependent who live among us. There but for the grace of God, some genetic anomalies, and luck go you and I. I saw the courts throw up their hands at 5th offense OWI and sentence these guys to prison. So off to the criminal justice system they go to live with, be abused by the Father Rapers, The Mother Killers, the Drive by Shooters, the Domestic Violence practitioners. Tossed in with prison gangs and the loss of freedom not imagined by somewhat ordinary everyday guys and gals who have an alcohol illness.

Often these people were every day farmers, laborers, business men and women with an alcohol addiction so powerful it rules their lives

What we woefully lack in the criminal justice system is meaningful treatment. I would like to see facilities designed specifically designed for the treatment and support of alcoholics. I would pay for that with taxes on alcoholic beverages that could only be used for such facilities, programs, and staffing. I could see paying an extra buck on a bottle of bourbon, or a case of beer, as long as some slimy Governor was prevented from pilfering from the fund for other purposes.

Currently all we are doing is warehousing and punishing with little or no hope of meaningful change in their circumstances.

Purchased new 10 ply tires for one of the vans about a month ago. Couldn't get the Toyo's, I wanted. Had to settle for Yokohama's. Usually, buy Michelin's but the ones I been purchasing (like forever) were discontinued. Replacement wasn't getting good reviews from customers and even tire dealers. General's weren't available either. Goodyear's are being made in Mexico. :sigh: Everything sitting offshore in cargo containers. :headbang:

Up and getting ready to process my quartered deer today. Can not find my rose bud tip for the Benzomatic. Got a lot of hair to burn off. Had to to quarter the deer commando style in the back of the truck. Temps were creaping up. So a lot of hair.
So have it all in garbage bags since Thursday morning, in the deep freeze at 36 to 38 degrees using my PID I just built for casting, to keep it cool and let it maybe age a bit
I will be pulling the Quarters, washing, burning off the hair and butchering today.

So getting ready to get off my but and run to the hardware store in a bit as soon as my coffee kicks in.
Leary bout using a new internet shop for my supplies, but....
Got my lee .356 bullet sizer from FS reloading. Prices fair. Was very happy with their service. Had live inventory listed on line. If something was sold out it let you know right on the first page.Got it shipped same day and followed up with update emails till it got to me in 6 days. Was packed well, probably better then it had to be, and the even followed up with a delivered e mail 10 min. after it hit my box. Will definitely be using them again, started an account. Going to leave them a smashing review in a bit on their blog. Happy Happy.:)

I had some money in my pocket, till I drove past the gun store on the way from the hardware store.
Well it just can not hurt to stop and have a cup of coffee, and gun bs a bit before getting to the deer processing..
Wrong.
Worst part of it is Im already caliber heavy in .22lr and I can not reload for it. ¯\_(ツ)_/
Second worse part is it's a Rossi.

BTW finally butchering the venison.

their semi-auto?

heard a little story from my Buddy down to the sportsman's today.
he was talking with the Hornady rep. in the store yesterday, and the Rep. dropped a little tidbit about the SEC not allowing the remington ammo purchase to continue.

I'm guessing Vista crossed the line on the monopoly thing.
i was in kind of a hurry, and he had stuff to do real quick so i didn't hang around for the whole story.

For almost 2 decades I've had a couple websites and some domain-based email addresses hosted with Godaddy. Godaddy has decided to switch everyone to Office 365 for email, so I get the joy of finding a new hosting provider.

Oh well, I didn't have anything else planned for my spare time this month......

Goat Screw 101 today. Went to see "water front property." Drove 2+ hrs. Pissed me off when we got there. There WAS a creek/water. But it was nothing more than a huge field lotted out as a subdivision. There were 2-3 "true" waterfronts. But the house lot was 100' over the water level. All others were just SD lots, and then the "waterfront/RV friendly lot was basically an RV parking slot down by the creek. I HATE Sales and Marketing people that are blatantly dishonest.

On a positive note - I DID enjoy the ride and time with the wife. We also did some shopping for our angel tree kids and the GS. And, swung by the deer hunting property/walked the woods (she loves walking in the woods) and checked the RV. So the day overall was great, other than the 10 min idiocy above.
