I have several cigars that are my favorites. This is one.
They go well with both scotch and bourbon.

Glenmorangie Port Cask is a good scotch and Rare Breed is a bourbon I enjoy.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
"Wild Turkey"! Hadn't thought of that in years, decades! That was the booze of choice for all the alcoholic linemen that used to come in my folks bar every single weekday afternoon. Beer with a WT chaser. Sheesh! Those guys livers must have been marble by the time I got out of school.

So shortly after finishing my earlier post our power went out! Normally that wouldn't be a big deal but it's winter, theres 6" of fresh snow out there already and my barn freezes up fast. Out I go to try get the big tractor going. Ha! The fates laughed at me, and then I set the darn tractor on fire! After few minutes of flailing about in the firelight I got the flames knocked down. No real harm, just scared me. Couldn't get that rig to start, so I grabbed the old Ford and I'm using that. Power is supposed to be back on around 10:30PM. Sure hope so! It's past my bedtime already, 10:30 is late for me these days.

when i have a drink it's usually something simple like Hornito's silver tequila, yukon jack apple, or coors.
just smelling Bourbon makes me want to throw up.

odd the power thing.
ours has been flickering off then right back on for the last 2 days.
it's screwing with some of my electronics something fierce.

spent another 4+hrs. cooking 2 batches of bullets today.

Finally happenned, been wondering why it took so long.

I teach high schoolers. For anyone who isn't around teenagers much, the latest fad the past few years, every little girl just has to have a nose piercing of some sort (I don't understand it, it sure hurts to get hit in the nose, can't imagine what having a hole punched through it is like). Most go for just a little stud thing, but some get a ring through one side.

Anyway, during some horeseplay amongst the kids today, yep. She got it pulled out. I wasn't paying that close attention when it happenned until I saw her with her head down bleeding. Always amazing how much a nose injury bleeds. To her credit, she took it a lot better than I'd have expected. Obviously, I was suddenly very concerned and rushed to make sure she was OK. She was much, much more embarrassed by it all than hurt or upset, just wanted some Kleenex and refused the offer when I asked if she wanted to go see the school nurse. She did out the rest of the class with a bandaid on the outside and a big wad of Kleenex shoved in her nose, looked funny as hell, but she never cried or anything, just blushed a lot. Really, she took it a lot better than I would have.

I'm really surprised it took this long for it to happen.

We drink wine, every day with dinner...............probably since the 80's. Mostly, red. Hence the reason for the avatar.

Evan William's 1783 Small Batch is my shelf bourbon. Straight, mixed with cola or with a Manhattan. Occasionally, have a Rusty Nail or a Black Russian. They tend to be on the sweet side, so I mix them at a ratio of two to one. One in a while beer. A six pack, usually last till the expiration date on the bottle.

Like said before, equal opportunity imbiber.

Play stupid games... Saw quite a few people that had various piercings pulled out on the job. At least the tiny holes heal up, the "gauges" where they elongate their ear lobes, etc don't.

Power didn't come back on till sometime between 2:30-3:00AM. What a fun night. Getting a new battery for the big tractor for sure! Went through over 10 gal of gas in 7+ hours. But the barn isn't froze up and that's what counts.

Are you sure your real name isn't Chevy Chase or Cosmo Cramer??

Headed to Bennington Armory (another Charlie's gun shop, just a different Charlie) to show him my Hubalek High Wall. He has several in his collection. Charlie's shop is more like a museum and he's always got new gems showing up. Need to go kick some tires. Taking the wife. Gonna make a winter therapy project out of it. Nice place across the street from the shop for lunch.

I just spoke for an Ideal 308257 single cav on CB. It’s an early one with the integral handles. I did a couple web searches for info on it, and only found 1-2 threads with a little info. Seems like the front driving band is supposed to cast at .319 - early style dirt scraper.
Anything else I should know about intended use, quirks, etc?

Busy day, going on 4ish hours of sleep, about done in! Plowed snow, broke snow plow. Went to town for the tractor battery, they were 1/3 off! Cindy made chicken noodle soup. So some good, some bad and I lived. That's a win!

Started a "rebuild" on a ol shotgun.

It has needed this, even before I owned it. ;)

Its a old H&R 1900 12g.

I have a suggestion for you, CW. A friend at the club just did this with an H&R shotgun. Bore out the chamber and thread it. then screw in a rifle barrel to make a single shot rifle. I think he made a .22 Hornet with his. I questioned his sanity with that caliber choice. I think I would have made a wildcat in a small caliber like .25. Emulate a .25-20SS, only use something like a .30-30 as the parent case and neck down to .25. Won't be a true tapered or straight wall case. But would be a pussycat to shoot. You could also make a taper wall chamber and just fire form the .30-30 to match. Put a Unertl or Targetspot on it and everyone will be wanting to know what you have. That's where the fun comes in. No limit on the yarn you could spin about the only time H&R tried to compete at Creedmoor against the big names like Winchester, Stevens and Ballard. There's a whole bunch of extra fun involved here, CW, after you have fun building the rifle. You could even stamp the caliber on the barrel. I'm thinking .25-30 CW (in this case CW means Creedmoor Wildcat). Think how much fun you could have at the range when the fish are not bitin'. It could be a whole new strain of "sucker" to bait and reel in.

Well, seems like Charlie and I were on 180 deg different wavelengths. I decided to call his shop on the way there and he was already headed in my direction. Seems this was not his week to work. We had actually passed each other before I called him. So, I turned around and we met at his buddy's antique shop. My wife was quite pleased with the change in plans. Showed Charlie the Hubalek and he wants it. So, it's horse-trading time.

As a sidenote, his buddy's antique shop had an original ventriloquist dummy for sale. I've seen the toys. But never a professional. Belonged to a pro from New Orleans. His name and address were inside the dummy. My wife did not like it. Thought it was creepy. I picked it up and I could make his eyebrows move and his eyes move. But the string was broken to his mouth. He looked very real. When I put him back on the sofa on which they had him displayed, I felt like I was putting a child down. I have to admit, it was a little creepy. The problem is, now I want one. They wanted $300 for the dummy and that ain't happenin'. But carving a head and making a dummy would make a great winter therapy project. And I'm thinking of making him look like Charlie at Wilton. Boy, could I have some fun with that.

I gotta stop leaving the house. I can only see trouble in my future.

Did some more looking for the elusive Minie balls; found 1. Did find a couple other things I had forgotten about. Couple hundred 44 S&W SPL cases (about 1/4 of them balloon head cases), a few dozen gas checked hollow points for the 32-20 and a hundred or so sized and lubed 25-20 bullets.

Mostly drink red wine. As spirits go, kind of favor Knob Creek Small Batch Bourbon and Glenfiddich 12 year old single malt.

Funny thing about smoking, been off tobacco for 25 years. When I did smoke it was cigarettes mostly; about a carton a week. Only smoked cigars 4 or 5 times in a year, but I miss smoking cigars more than I miss cigarettes.

I miss rum crooks. Sometimes.
Nothing like relaxing with a rum crook and a good old fashion boiler maker. After A nice aged steak.
