At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Got the sheep done yesterday. Darn near killed me. Grab one of nearly 100 ewes and lambs, flop her on her side, vet jabs her in the throat and gets blood then digs around in her rectum for a poop sample, mark her and let her go. Oh, and every other one you just mark and release...something about statistics. Took the so called "stupid" sheep 1.0000783 nan seconds to figure this game out and the fight was on. Believe it or not a big mess of sheep and lambs in a small pen maybe 30 feet across can elude capture by a lame old dude rather easily. The 2 vets and local Cooperative Extension lady were right in there missing sheep too. These sheep shed out in spring and there was a lot of handfulls of hair and no sheep after the effort examples seen. We finally got to the last one and she had a dry hole out back. So we had stand there with her for 10 minutes or so until her gut pushed some more "sample" down the tract far enough for the vet to "secure". You just don't see this stuff on TV! Anyway, after all the paper word got done I got the sheep pastured out by themselves without the goats. Sheep aren't happy, goats aren't happy. I'm good with that. Took me 45 minutes to locate my brand new last year higher end 12v fence charger, the one that has the handy gauge to indicated battery state and what kind of voltage I'm getting and packs enough punch to discourage both sheep bent on escape and coyotes thinking of ducking under the fence. Checked every possible spot I might have conceivably stored it and was beginning to think I'd left it out in a forgotten pasture someplace. Finally grabbed a flashlight and located it in a dark corner of the barn where I am positive I did not leave it! Must be someone "helped me out" yet again!

Boy, am I lamed up and sore today!

Aspercreme. Works same as Ben Gay and such but with ZERO odor. Counterirritants, what they are called, work by overloading the brain with a stimulus so the pain message is lost in the traffic.
Methylsalicylate is oil of wintergreen. Just don’t ingest the stuff, quite toxic.
My wife has foot neuropathy, and I discovered massaging her feet at bed time with a generic aspercreme alleviates the pain and helps her get a good night's sleep.
Heading off to get chickens butchered and we will be canning those roosters later this morning.

In AZ, no problem, that's still Free America. I had to be careful and plan for my trip to Cali last Sept.
Figuring out how to remain legal in Cali, but not be entirely disarmed is a trick.

Unloaded 336 Marlin, out of reach in the back of the Cayman. Ammo in the front door pocket.
Not exactly "quick draw" but better than nothing.
Handguns in locked cases, unloaded in the trunk......until we hit AZ on the way home. Yay! Back
in Free America. My CCW is good in all the states I normally travel in, not Cali, Oregon and Illinois.
Otherwise, good to go. I no longer travel north of VA, just no reason to go there, and lots to not.

from what I understand that's about how every HP officer in the west expects a traffic stop with a vehicle that has Idaho plates is gonna go,,, only with more attitude from the driver..

sigh more snow.
whatever I done downstairs must have worked [knock on wood] the pump hasn't filled up enough to run once this spring.
I think the front porch has helped move the water away enough to make a difference too.
it has rained/snowed for 2 weeks straight, and the forecast is nothing but rain until next Friday, which is as far as the forecast goes.

tried going outside, but it's cold/wet/humid and annoying, so I turned the heat on in the greenhouse to try and get it warmed up in there, come inside and moved the stereo system upstairs.

My mother had a small greenhouse. In the middle of winter, with snow on the ground, I loved
to go into it and just get a chair and read. The warmth, earthy smells and plant smells were just
NICE in the middle of cold, miserable weather. A little slice of summer, there to enjoy when you
really needed it.

The last of the chickens are in the canner, a lot more work than you would think. Canning chicken is much more labor intensive than venison or fish.
I got 262 30 XCBs checked, lubed, sized, and over coated with BLL. Then I did another 300 Lee 312-155-2Rs. You need something to do while the canners are running.

Assembled some 03A3 test loads with the Ideal 308291 and NOE's 311169 copy of the same. The Ideal mould is a single-cavity and I bought the NOE, amassed a goodly supply, then sold the mould. However there are slight physical differences, between the two bullets, and I want to see if there are any on-target differences.

As part of my overall gun-related downsizing* I'm taking a serious look at exactly which moulds will realistically accommodate the dwindling gun accumulation. If there are no discernible on-target differences, I will melt the un-lubed and un-sized 311169 stash, or give the lot to my son-in-law. He has already been gifted two .30 caliber moulds and several hundred lubed and sized .30 caliber bullets, for his .30-'06 Remington 721. I don't at all mind casting with a single-cavity mould so the Ideal mould should be ideal (unintentional pun) for my 03A3 needs, especially since the rifle has a strong preference to the RCBS 30-180-SP.

*I've sold some no-longer-wanted rifles, but am buying long-desired rifles. So far more rifles have been sold than rifles that have been bought, so I consider that downsizing.

More work, did some, checked on some, lined up more equipment for others, & thought about the other work I didn't get done but need to do.

Now I'm going to load some boxer primed steel 223 cases. After a trip through the sb die they will chamber. Think it's going to be a 600rnd batch of plinkers for ar pistol. Going to load cast 75gr (looking for function around 1500-1800) & 55fmj.
