At long last after monumental failures to communicate , back orders , bank haggling , and all manor of annoyances I'm waiting with the tractor to take delivery of the new baby sawmill . My Valentine's Day gift order ......... Just in time for the Indy race .

What kind did you decide on?

I can recall a few traffic stops that started out as a tail light out type thing and by the time we got done there werre 2 or 3 Troop cars and maybe a Deputy there, lots of drool on the ground and names, phone #'s and addresses exchanged and friendships made. All because 2 gun nuts met on the side of the road. I know it's not like that everywhere, but it's happened.

Grey skies and rain. Yipee. #2 Son had a bad day yesterday with a none too flattering school conference and getting caught by his tattle tale sister doing something he shouldn't. She was very happy, he wasn't. Kids. Got him disassembling all those 9mm Largo duds we were gifted. Brass is worth something, bullets for trade goods at a show maybe and what guy doesn't like making a pile of powder and lighting it off like it's a bomb? By the times he's done, there must be 3-400 rounds, he's never going to want to see an impact puller again!

Still hobbling around like Tim Conways "Oldest man in the world" character. Not much fun. Got a huge list of stuff to do this weekend and a Memorial Day Service speech/prayer to do Monday. Time to move the sheep to the other farm too...and the goats are due for worming...and I have brush to burn and tires to change and a haybine to repair and the lawn needs mowing and power needs to be run to the rabbit building and there's several years worth of manure to spread and....you get the picture.

Changed the Park ave oil. Finished up my Easton 2215's. Blasted some 7mm's.

Waiting to see how many of the boys show up this weekend. One of their womenfolk is having a baby shower,at her parents house a 1/2 hr from here.

So reckon we're shooting bows and grilling? There's a good size shoot in Roanoke next weekend, dumbarse son should've told his wife to party it up next weekend? They were thinking memorial weekend?......priorities man, haha.

I wish I had a dollar for every mile I rode in the back of a pickup on memoriable day weekend.
I remember one time dad stopped someplace in central Utah and brought a big box out and shoved it in the back of the truck and told the three of us to leave it alone.
yeah.
3 kids In a pickup shell, a giant box making odd sounds, 150 miles of 2 lane 50 mph at best road.
nothing could possibly happen.
there was 2 geese in the box BTW, I will let you fill in the particulars.

Yep! Quite the same here in SE KS. Had over 10" this month (so far) and more predicted for this afternoon. Garden isn't fairing so well and I'm pretty sure all my fertilizer has found it's way to the neighbors yard. I just hope some of it survives.

The farmers are getting shafted, again. Too wet to get a lot of the crops planted,
most are way behind. Some crops will be OK with later planting, but a lot of corn
needs ALL of the normal warm days and losing a couple of weeks even is bad, may
not finish out well before the sunlight and temps roll off enough to hurt yields.

And I have some areas of my mowed acreage that we haven't been ove reven once yet
this year, too wet. Some has been mowed twice and still is over knee high.

Piled a bunch of rocks around the piers on the near side of my bridge over the creek yeaterday
between rain storms. Two of the four concrete pier castings were partially exposed. In August, I will
be under there pulling it back apart and then laying all the rocks again with mortar. I did this on the
other side last year, and this side was OK, but this spring the water has been super high for far longer
and washing the bank a lot.

A couple of big trees down across it in the last year, too.
Not sure I really want to tackle them. Makes hard work trying to cut up a big, multitrunk
tree with it laying in and across a creek.

In honor of those who fell in defense of America's freedom, I headed out to the range with the 2-43 barrel-dated 03A3. Range was closed, and will be till the 31st.

After returning home and eating a light breakfast, took the dog for a long beach walk and enjoyed the very low tide and even lower overcast.

Yard work is next.

On Monday, I will spend some time going over old pictures and happy memories of my nephew.
Killed in Afghanistan in a firefight in 2009. Almost 10 years now. Hard to believe.
I miss him.
I'll have his sisters out to the Colorado cabin with their kids in a few weeks.

dang Gary.
you could impound it and put some rice in on that left side??
LOL sorry, but [shrug] what ya gonna do?
I got ants coming up in both cold frames, I don't know if it's the water or the warmth pulling them in but they are having a good time in there.
the one box had nothing in it until today [put a bunch of squash plants in it] so I have no idea what they were eating, but the other ones were eating the roots off of some of the plants.
I was trying to figure out why one cauliflower was green and 1' tall [and starting to bud out to make a head] meanwhile one was struggling and one was toast.
the lettuce wasn't growing either and it had been boing gangbusters.
they ain't got no roots under them.
I got mad enough to spray the holes down with some bug killer to knock them back, but I'm gonna have to find some orange oil to douse the whole area down with. [that or they are getting a whole can of citrus degreaser shot down their hole]
they got all the dandelions they want to eat 2' away, they don't need the stuff I been growing from seeds since march.

I think with all the rain here and north the fire ants are going to be crazy or gone. 3 men & a 30' trailer took out the tree and stump, I put ~ 150# of sawdust into the trash. They stacked the trailer ~ 7' high.
South of here they have the field of Flags for the fallen. Quite a sight.

Lightening bugs are out thick this evening, haven't seen them like this since I was a kid. Pretty cool. Well, different kind of "cool" considering it's a balmy 79 out there.

We have june bugs all year, they're on different cycles and at any given time they'll be swarming lights or you can find grubs when you dig a hole.

Never seen lightning bugs.
Never seen June bugs till I moved to Oregon, even living in pretty much all the western states.
The first year we didn't know what was invading us. The next summer we were ready for them with garage sale badminton, and tennis rackets.
I used my first six cavity mold a few days ago, (m&p aluminum #68) now I know whats been missing. Can't believe how quick I got 19 3/4 pounds of #68 s for the 45.

I bought a clone from HF . Several models from several makers have cut width , depth , last cut , and bed length that are a trade off of 1" in cuts . The bed , cut length ranges 2 ft from 8'6" to 10'4" . For my needs the HF was the best trade off . It is reported to cut down to 1" and 21" wide . It only cuts 9'6" long and they don't offer a bed extension kit . I'd like to be able to cut 16'4" and I think I can probably extend the bed for less that the $300+ the "name brands" ask for the extension kits . The HF starts out $400 less than the name brands and makes use of the predator engine line . So when the motor let's go there's a spare available or a replacement on the shelf for about what a Kohler engine kit costs .
Oddly enough the HF also has the longest blade . Bigger wheels , more reduction , faster cuts .......at least more cuts per blade .
Final price on the ground is $2199.4? Lotta money to lay out . I compared shipping density with 3 other comparable saws . #25 O/U so the parts are all similar construction and 25# isn't a whole lot on a 750# package . The other 3 were $25-2700 plus freight .

Anyway tomorrow I'll drop by the salvage yard and see if there's a boat trailer available for a platform . If not I have pretty used up tandem axle flatbed that used to be one . It has a 12' deck so I'll only have sbout a 36 inch over hang one end and 18-24" on the other .

Fiver, sprinkle diatomaceous earth in your greenhouse. Its sharp and jagged on a microscopic level. It cuts the exoskeletons and they dry out and die.

Cool RB.... you "could" use it for a cpl years and then sell it.

No,am not saying you should.... saying "could". We used to buy some pretty big wood milling equipment, use it on one big job then turn around and sell it.... gets involved with taxes N such. Another interesting twist on things $$ is scaffolding.... buying vs rental.

Just be careful, work on a solid safety protocol....as well as spotting maintenance and startup anomalies. Good luck.

I've looked at the HF sawmill online. Still haven't seen one in person. It's rather stupid for me to want a mill when I have Amish mills, like 5, all around me that will cut what ever I want, how ever I want, when ever I want, but the desire is still there. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the mill after you get some run time. Best of luck with it though! That's definitely a "man toy"!

SWMBO had yesterday off, as did the granddaughter (unused snow days, something they probably don't have down south). Went to Wally World and found out my farm tractor tire (13.9-28) for $86.00 I'd ordered was a 17 inch truck tire. When you order on line from Walmart they often have outside vendors offering stuff. There are several farm tractor tires offered under $100.00 The "normal" price would be up around $3-400. So a few of us ona tractor site have tried ordering them hoping we'd get them. I'm not sure if the company is obligated to send a product if they say it's in stock at a certain price and show a picture and description that should be a farm tire. ??? Cancled that order, bought 2 batteries, went to Lowes and boght screen molding, took the kid to her dads. Spent most of the rest of the day with a heating pad on the knee. About 10:30PM the dogs outside were going nuts. I spotted my #1 livestock guard dog going down the road towards the barn. Figured the sheep were out. Gord went and checked the sheep and they were all in, as was the dog by then. All I can think is he chased something (coyote? another dog?) all the way down to the house and then got some help from the "barn guard" dog that was supposed to be with the sheep, which then set off all the dogs. I dunno, never happened before.

Todays events include moving sheep fence/sheep, sheetrock and priming, lawn mowing hopefully, hobbling around and a thousand other things.
