I work hard!
Are there slow times, sure, I won’t lie, boats come and go, feast or famine. But, I’ve earned every dollar.
I’ve missed a year and a half of my son’s life working overseas/out of state, on temporary duty at other shipyards.
I’ve hauled myself, welding machines, leads/hoses, and my heavy tool bag up and down those dry-dock stairs thousands of times. I’ve crawled so many tanks. They put disgusting things in some of those tanks. I’ve contorted my body and bruised my ribs to make sure the job was done right, to make sure our boys can float back to the surface everytime!
I’ve called the paramedics when my co-workers have been injured, and I have said a prayer when others have died on the job, or been so physically broken they will never work again. I’ve lost count of the folks I’ve seen carted off in those ambulances.
I pay my Union dues, I’m proud of the work that I do, and Thank You all for paying your taxes, and thereby paying my wages.
On this Memorial Day I will remember ALL of our people who have died in the defense of this great nation. Some of them had a parachute fail to open over Normandy, and died. Some of them got knocked off staging into a dry-dock, while repairing damage from the Pearl Harbor Attack, and died.
