Yeah, fiver, I didn't even really need any more solder, but couldn't pass this up. Heck, it don't go bad on ya.

I have a nagging suspicion that we are going to receive 10 lbs TROY of solder. That's 8 pounds.

I just checked the eBay page for this sale and it has been changed significantly. It now lists 5 bars @ $60 and no more free shipping. Needed to dig a page deeper to find the weight which is now listed at 5 bars (4 pounds). That would make it now $15 a pound plus shipping. Not bad for todays tin prices but nowhere near the screamin deal it was. It now lists standard UPS ground shipping @ $11.66 for one 4 pound order. $13.75 for 8 pounds.

I think I have never actually seen anything made of actual pewter. I don't know what the "pewter" I've seen was made of, but it made everything taste metallic, which should not happen with something that is mostly tin.

As for the solder sale, I haven't opened the box yet with my ten bars, and my scale is still in storage with the rest of my life... Did anybody weigh theirs? As of today they are selling 5 (Though the picture shows 10!) "regular bars" at $60 with free shipping. No weight claim, so I'm betting the 10 bar deal was, as I suspected, Troy weight, so 8 lbs total.

The bars weigh 14 ounces, not 16. So, I received 8 lbs 12 oz instead of 10 lbs. I contacted the seller and told him of this, and he kindly refunded me the difference. So, I ended up paying $10 per pound and am very happy.

It's odd that the declared weight of a bar of solder can vary from 0.8 to 1.2 lbs (Per Roto Metals), and that the variation is not due to the relative density of the different alloys. In fact, if it were, the 95/5 bars would be under 11 ounces.

Not odd with Roto, they don't pour by weight, they fill a mold that should weigh X and some are a little over weight and some are a little under. From what I have bought from them most were a bit over more than making up for the few that were under. Grand total of the order was quite close though.
