The Reloading Component Draught, When Will It Rain Again.

Before I started reloading I wasn’t shooting as much. So 100 to 300 rounds in any centerfire cartridge or shell, and a brick of .22 LR was enough to get me through a shortage.

Today if I had a range in my backyard I’d be in trouble. I don’t shoot as often as some of you with personal ranges or who have rightly earned a good retirement. So 2500 to 3500 is about what we shoot in a year.

The way I’m shooting currently, I’ll be good for 5 to 7 years with powder, primers 4 to 5, lead 5, but jacketed hunting bullets is my short supply. That’s ok, I’ll practice this summer with cast, then sight in with the 180gr Partitions (I’ve got the last 50 loaded) before bear season opens in mid August. I did pick up a hundred and seventy-five Sierra 180gr ProHunters, same weight and flat base like the Partitions, so in all reality I could be fine for the next decade if I was conservative with my annual scope re-zeroing before hunting season.

I’ve said it before, I got lucky this time/wised up! I doubled down on primer and powder acquisition right before Covid broke out. Sportsman’s Warehouse had primers them on sale for months, all brands $20-25 per K. I was picking up a few per week. Yes they had limits set. I just wish I’d have bought those “Expensive” primers at the LGS that were running $33 per K. Hindsight is 20/20.

A bright spot here. Our Walmart shelves were totally empty of any ammo of any type at all. Today there were boxes of shotshells both Remington and Federal, Remington Green and Yellow box rifle ammo and some Federal pistol ammo. I didn't check on prices nor calibers (shotshell was 12 ga.) but it is encouraging to see the ammo shelves at least a third full, compared to completely bare.

Nothing around here for sometime. Primers are my weak spot. maybe 25-30K
I have powder for days. I could never spark it all with what I have. Siting pretty good on Jwords for how much I shoot them. Stocked up on all my long range stuff some years back. Possibly 1500-2K lead?... Like I said primers are my first purchase when they come around. For the amount I shoot 22lr, my 8-9K will hold me over.

My problem was I got started late in the game just got real serious about the time I started here so did not get stocked up on spp's and magnum spp's.
Was working on Rifle stuff when the crap hit, so plenty of small and large rifle primers. A lot of once fired .223 brass with primers installed. So I am playing with the AR.
Put the 357 and 9mm on the shelf for now.
Buying my 380 pre-rolled Mail order from Federal, Seems like they get it to me just as my coffers start to wane. Shooting .22 till something gives.
Ben making a lot of bullets, will not have to cast for anything .355 to .360ish for a while. Like a few years, after the shortage is over.

Yep. And how many of those were gifted to you?...
None were gifted, I inherited them. And some were primers Ihad purchased.

I do need to start shooting more LR, I have way too many primers for large rifle.

Good to know uncle Brad has my back if needed. I would love to see that part of the country someday. I’ve never been there.

back when... LOL
I loaded up on large pistol and rifle primers.
I figure the worst that happens is I end up shooting my lever rifles twice as much, and shooting deer with the stuff I'd shoot them with anyway.

Like to help, but. It would cost me more to get over there, then to just hire you a crew.
