SR71 - quite an aircraft. Even the NASA guys were impressed.

Dad worked on the SR-71. I once mentioned how amazing it was that they were able to keep it a secret until 1964. He laughed and said, the only people who didn't know about it by 1962 was the American public.

I ran across some formerly top secret photos of the first SR-71 being transported from Skunkworks to Area 51. I found it quite interesting. I may have posted the photos here a few years ago.

In 73 at Tank Commander school they showed us photos of a train load of new Rusky T-72 tanks Photos were so clear and detailed it was easy to see the turret hatches, sight shields and other details.
Few minutes later the E-7 teaching that session stated, "Now if the Spooks are willing to let us lowly tank crewman see those photos, what can they really record on film "?

IIRC they shipped it by truck up the grapevine in plywood boxes on flat beds, closed off the highway. Was in the area at that time but never saw it at night.

they would roll the bird in just before the Russian satellite come overhead to take it's picture.

Ru claims a lot of stuff that isn't true. The persistence of concrete would allow general shape and the number of them.

That the bird was designed to be leaky, fuel and hydraulic fluid stains would have been tell-tales.

Actually, it did. They bragged about it for years. Said they could see the 'shadow' @12PM. Theorectally impossible.
