Inquiring minds want to know.
At least when it comes to meat, I want to know.
This is probably the main reason I started to make my own sausage. The unmentionables and junk meat does not make it in the the sausage I make. He who eats commercial hot dogs can safely assert he will eat anything...

Butter, hold the mayo and Miracle Whip.

Mothers Day, daughter and husband had a get-together, part of which had son-in-law grilling hamburgers and hotdogs. Three young ladies are vegetarians and requested veggie burgers. I had to laugh as they crumbled when turned, and when removed from the grill.

The real question is what do you put on the outside of a grilled cheese sandwich!

Butter or Mayo?

My Mother is an ardent supporter of butter. My Father grew up with his Mother using Hellman's on the outside of the sandwich, he of course converted to BestFoods when he moved west (because it's the same product). There are many reasons that my parents divorced, but this is most likely the root of it all.

Side note: The first time that I made a grilled cheese sandwich for my wife she was "SHOCKED" by my use of mayo on the outside. I just reminded my wife of this memory and mentioned that she had "reacted violently" to me putting mayo on her grilled cheese. She corrected me and asked that I use the word shocked.

Everything is eatable if you cook it with a "smoking it's cooking, black it is done" attitude. Protein is protein.

French Fries are the real test. Heilman's is very popular in the NE, both mustard and ketchup in the Mid-west, salsa in the SW and Fry Sauce in the NW. That came out of Boise or Salt Lake City after WWII and a mix of ketchup and Best Foods mayonnaise. Miracle Whip seems to be a "city/yuppie" thing all across the country to replace mayonnaise, but is very unhealthy.

Vegetarian is an old Apache name for "bad hunter".

Butter! Margarine is composed of hydrogenated oils. As I understand it, because those oils have been broken down and reformed at a molecular level in such a way that they cannot then be broken down again by your body and cannot be completely excreted. In a nutshell, margarine is worse for the average Joe/Jane than butter.
Mayonnaise? Best Foods, Hellmann's, Costco/Kirkland, Japanese mayonnaise. As little as we can get by with. Miracle Whip? YUCK!

Use very little butter or mayo these days.

The opinions of the "experts" swing to whatever direction the dollar winds blow. I recall when I was a kid and butter was "bad" and margarine was "good", red meat was "bad", wine was "bad", etc, etc. Yes, margarine is an "artificial" food product and proven to add to the health risks modern people have to deal with. I realized the problem is actually "health" experts as they cause you to worry and cause stress, which is a contributor to unhappiness and stress which leads to heart attacks, etc.

Eat whatever you want, in moderation. Don't stress and grow old gracefully. 'nuff said.

I do know when making a long bow it is a bad idea to put extra pressure half way up one limb while stringing it. Butter or mayo would not help at all.

I had a Kentucky Long Bow snap on me once. Good thing I had Glasses on. Looked like I had been in a bar fight for about a week.

My first longbow let loose while I was exercising it before going out to stick a corn cruncher. Upper half went over my right shoulder and wacked me in the back. The wood explosion was not comforting to my wife who shouted down the basement stairs.... You are supposed to tell me before test firing down there !

When did Ranch Dressing become a condiment?
It was invented by an Alaskan camp cook who bought dude ranch north of Ventura, CA. Ranch was named "Hidden Valley". Ranch didn't work out but his salad dressing was a hit. Sold out in the early '70's a millionaire.

A kayak and our old Garcia 2 piece pole with a Mitchel 300 playing out a 7 pound yellow catfish on the North Fork River during a warm summer morning would be a joy to do again.

I kept both my Garcia pole (with new guides, worn the originals out) and bought two old Mitchel 300's to rebuild my original. Now only use to fish for crappies and perch, but caught my share of trout with that outfit.

eagle claw and the Mitchell 330 here.
dad got me the pole for Christmas and I saved like hell to get that reel.
I'd take the reel apart each winter and clean it then repack it with Vaseline, the guides on the pole finally got grooved enough it would fray or cut the line.
still got the reel, and I think the pole is down to mom and dad's place.
