Time has come for a more accurate powder throw. I think.

My RCBS with WC820 is a jam-o-matic. Powder gets between drum and housing and jams it right.

Just tru away a a digital mic because it would come out of adjustment, but only a little bit. So I kept checking it with my manual mic. Pitched it out. Use what you can trust. I'm old school and cheep. Can you tell?
ye, my Harbor Frieght digital calipers have caused me a lot of headaches. Dug out my Craftsman Micrometer from when I rebuilt motors. the #' don't change on that when you are looking at it. Still have not tossed the Calibers yet, trying to find a set of old school ones first.

I have 2 Uniflows and have scaled drops down to 3 gr of Unique with the large drum . Gotta do what you do . I get a little crunch with the like of 4350 and 4831 but the H322 and 4195 run well .

I don't use much ball powder .

So basically, from what I have gleaned thus far.
I need to Buy a pound of Green mountain coffee, then take a 100 mile trip to my cousins Ex. So I can get schooled on dippers. He has used nothing but Lee, home made dippers, for reloading for his"War Gun"colection for 40+ years.
Then maybe buy a good trickle charger(another can of worms to open....so what is a good one?"
Wait for Brad to clean up and asses a measure..
I am Kinda partial to the legend of the 55 but i would rather have an older one, I have heard they have fallen off on quality over the years.
But i would trust Brad if he told me he had a good one of another brand, you guys have mentioned, at a fair price.

Hmmmm. WC-820 and its offspring AA-9 both run well in my RCBS tools. Not the first time I have read or heard of problems with spherical powders in drum measures. Such things are just outside my experience (so far).

I have 2 Redding BR-30, one on the bench, one for loading at the shooting bench, I breech seat a lot, I also use a Belding and Mull for stick, powder when I don't have time to weigh them, also Black Powder, weigh every 5th round..I also have 2 Lyman 55, 1 RCBS Uniflo, 1 LEE , 1 RCBS Charge Master....I use the Redding more than anything, never had a problem with anything except SR4759, use the B&M or Chargemaster for that
Almost forgot, for Muzzleloading, my friend made a measure to use like the B&M, push in the measure instead of a lever like the B&M, funnel on the measure, makes it easy, clamps to the bench with a holder for the ramrod

Ian I'll take you up on that. I believe I have a couple one might be new. I'll check. Small or large?

It ain't worth the freight, packaging, or trip to the PO. Besides I only have the one 55 to trade and already have both Uniflows and both drums for each.

4060May, my B&M has a brass reservoir and cap, I assumed for use with gunpowder.

Had a 55 and found it too fiddly. Bought another just to have it permanently set for a particular powder and amount, then determined that two was one too many, so sold one and bought a Uni-Flow. After a fair amount of un-scientific testing and comparison I sold the remaining 55.
The Uni-Flow's large drum accommodates all my loads, and the spiffy after-market micrometer adjusting stem is very repeatable. I keep a list of my most used powders, their various charges, along with the micrometer setting for each, and add to it as needed.

Regardless handgun or rifle, I trickle and weigh every charge, and load every case immediately after charging.

Oh, I found the Lee Perfect Powder Measure to leak powders of itty-bitty kernels, the 55 to be less leaky, and the RCBS non-leaky.

462, that pretty much sums my experience as well. With the tap tap, down, tap tap, up technique like Fiver wrote, the Uniflow is the only measure I ever needed down to 2.4 grains of Titegroup which its absolute minimum limit. Now I have a small one and the small drums so its easier, but no more consistent. The B&M is fabulous but not as convenient as drum measures.

Yeah Ian I kinda figured you were outfitted pretty well in that dept.
I did go look and I have 4 Uni-Flo dispensers, one new in the box with both drums, two in good shape and one that got water damaged. One is in use.
I think I will get the upgrade micrometer for the one in use, sounds useful.
Also found about 5 beam scales, couple new in the box. Sounds like I need to start setting that stuff aside for the next gun show. Just have a table with all gun - reloading extras to make a little more room around here.

Got myself a set of lee "spoons" for now. Loaded up a few 06 with the spoons other morning. Double checked everything on the scales. Think I actually am getting the hang of it.
Going to look for a used trickle charger.
For now my trickle charger is a bent playing card and a pencil.
 Hey, it works.
