My grandson Trevor , wanted to shoot the Rem. 788 ( He claims it as " HIS " ) , 308 Win. at the range today. He did pretty well with it at 50 yards.

Doesn't take him long to empty a box of 50 rds.

Here was the load for all 50 rds. Pretty accurate at 50 yards :

Good on Ben for taking one for the team and stopping to eat. I’m sure Trevor appreciates how much of an imposition it was.

Nice shooting there. I think he has things pretty well figured out.

Bill,

Yes , definitely fun.
I've tried from the beginning to work toward 3 goals with Trevor :
  1. Fun
  2. Safety
  3. Good marksmanship skills
I'm happy to say that at this point in time, the progress in all arenas has pleased me. What he can do ( along with his firearms knowledge base ) as a 10 yr. old continues to amaze me. He is so far ahead of me at age 10, it isn't even close........

Sound goals and a good job in all respects. Kids can soak up an amazing amount of knowledge if they are having fun.

Having "fun" at the top of the list is perfect. And of course, safety is crucial. It is easy to forget that
our sport is one where errors must be avoided at all cost. But that has a great maturing affect, I believe,
on young shooters. They learn early on that responsibility is absolutely critical. I can remember when I
was teaching my two young friends (now both in USMC) to shoot. One range day, they noticed some other
shooters (adults) being less than perfectly safe, and they pointed it out to me. They were appalled to see
someone breaking gun safety rules, and they were about Trevor's age. Taught right from an early age,
shooters become very solid on the safety rules.

Certainly those groups are pretty amazing. Are the 788 groups yours or Trevors? If that is Trevor's
work.....I am really impressed. I suspect that they are your groups, with the intent of showing what the
gun and load can do.

And shooting a high capacity semiauto, regardless of caliber is just plain old fun.

A Saturday for the memory banks, no doubt. :D

And I like your choice of restaurant, too. :)

Gotta keep it fun or you lose kids in a hurry.
Somehow I think Ben has a pretty good feel for Trevor’s comfort level and makes sure the educational part doesn’t overwhelm the enjoyment part.

Tricky to always keep it balanced. Nonetheless, it is impt. to keep it balanced.

Well, I am really impressed. THAT is some super shooting for anyone, and extremely outstanding for
a youngster. That takes excellent concentration, and focus, which are not so common at that age.
Getting groups like that take a great gun and load, but also some really solid shooting, a combination
of many small things, each done just right, no errors.

Well done, Trevor. :D:D

OK--those bug-hole groups are SUPERB WORK. Trevor, you have it all going on for you at the benchrest, and that AK-47 work is none-too-shabby as well. Groups like these don't just happen--they are worked for and therefore EARNED. Good on ya, young man!
