Unubtaniam powder

I have been looking for 2400 for about 4 or 5 years now. Tonight I was on CB and saw a post from 5 minutes earlier. About a site that had 1 & 8 lb. containers in stock. My hands flew over the keys to open the link. The wife had to borrow me some from our reserve to get it. But now I am a very happy camper with an 8 lb. jug of 2400 coming in a big brown truck shortly. I am set now for a very long time!!! Kevin

double check it when it comes.
I have been noticing a trend where the newer Alliant powders weigh more for the same volume.
the newer red-dot and green-dot both needed me to scale back my shot shell bushings 2 sizes, and the last 2400 I got was also a lower volume for the weight.
by weight I got the same results as both the older alliant and the even older herculese 2400 I have on hand here but it was with a lesser volume.
it was also a darker black color, not the grainy brown I have been used to seeing for years.

For those who can't get 2400 easily, look at the now-plentiful Ramshot True Blue. It will for sure find all the leaks in your powder measures but is one of the most consistent handgun powders I've found in the Herco/Longshot/HS6/2400 burn rate, and will do nicely in a pinch for lighter loads, too. The stuff is very dense but oddly not nearly as position-sensitive as 2400.

Fiver,
I have not been able to find 2400 for a couple of years. The present lot number I am working on requires about 2-3% less weight for the same velocity, but is just as fine as the previous lot.
Ian,
I have not found it to be very position sensitive if kept level or up against the primer. But I am a benchrest shooter, or if walking varmints, keep the rifle at port arms. You may have different issues if pointed muzzle down.

That's why DuPont invented Dacron....so you can pop a crow in a distant tree or a turtle on a log from a bluff with your .30-30 without worrying about where is the powder. I find position-sensitive loads most annoying in handguns because in the field they tend to get rocked and tilted every which way between shots.

Ian, it must be my age. I very seldom walk up! Usually shooting level or down when varminting. If there is climbing involved, it is not for me.

I have been buying Accurate's 4100 ever since I swapped into some when I made a trade with Dick Casull a couple of years back.
it is in the oh-so-close to 2400 range that quite often the loads either overlap or are well within 1/2gr for the same results.
during the last panic I just kept on picking it up here and there as I seen it.
with the 16 lbs I got from Dick, the 4100 I picked up here and there, and the 2400 I have put away I don't know if i'll ever shoot it all up.
