Just got back from a shoot that will have my hands failing a CSI powder swabbing for two weeks. And I had time to think when the guns needed to cool. I lost interest in the 30 bore when I found the 35. Now you “nuts” got me diggin in the “historical” storage bins & here’s what I found buried there. (See pic) The problem is, I don’t own a 30 these days. My barrel changer passed this past June, so I have to get a whole nother outfit. See what use started? That’s some 465s, 467s, 284s, & my baby, the 155 grain, RPM bustin, LBT spitzer.

But of course you need a .30-caliber rifle! Everyone needs a .30- cal rifle. Several, in fact. Any thoughts on what rifle you would look for?

I own a 30-30 and a 300 BO. No 308 or 06 here. Somehow I survive.

you un-American bastages... LOL

if your looking for a 30-06 I'll highly recommend a not American made Bergara.
it's what the Rem 700 should be.

I might cry if I didn't have a 308, preferably an autoloader.

Get the .30's up round 2500fps,find a sweet spot in the loading and, they are a lot of fun to shoot. 24" barrels make it easier to get the velocity. I like the '06 but have some nice 308's.

No bugs on Savages either but I've spent my life in the cheap seats with work horses that need a little polish .
300 Savage , 308 , 7.65 Arg , 30 XCB , 7.7 Jap , 30-06' , 300 Gibbs , the related AIs and probably a couple more I've missed that all fit the .473 bolt face . There's a number of rimless and rimmed metrics in 7.35 to 7.62 . Then all of the belted and beltless mags with names like 7.82 Warbird and 30/378 . I know a guy with a reamer set for a 30/45-70 you know in case you really want a 30 cal 1886 Win . I suppose if you really wanted a bad boy he could hook up a 30/45-120 .

Bass, Waco's been shooting 165s through his 20" longn 10-twist .308 out to 500 yards and ignoring "rpm" altogether like most of the rest of us here so's he can keep it supersonic the whole way and beat up on a 10" plate. If you have any interest these days in going past 200 yards with cast bullets, Veral already made you the mould to do it, could be fun. Fiver has a bunch of loads posted in the "range report" thread. For extra fun and challenge, you could grab a Springfield M1A and have a blast shooting cast bullets with it.

I have access to 400 yard shooting from a good bench occasionally, but play time is limited by other projects currently so I mosly play at 100 yards here at home.

I would think he does .
I've heard him called stubborn , opinionated , even arrogant . Lots of people don't get along too well with him , spend a little time with him and get on the same page totally different guy than in print ......still opinionated but , aren't we all a little .

Found some stuff under the bed. This was stuff to make the 284 sing from 1600 to 2300 with the H870. Starting to come back to me now.

Wow, & from a 308 ta boot. That’s great. Nothing against a 308, but that was the 1st “improved” case design factory cartridge, with improved meaning it enhanced powder burning. (Speeds the burn curve rise over a tapered case such as the 06.) This always escaped Larry)

I shot ground hogs @ 400 yds with the LBT. Had Veral cut it a little shallow (shorten the GC shank) to cut it down from a 160 naked to a 155 fully dressed to dance. And dance she would with RL 19. It’s coming back slowly.

Bass. If you're interested, this is a video of me shooting at 500 yards that Ian referred to.

I’d say impressive. Shows knowledge & skill under less than perfect conditions. A lot of people couldn’t do better regardless of the bullet material or group size @ 100 yds. Too bad you didn’t go a little slower, would like to see the difference. Ahhhh, since you were on a roll, did you try the handgun?

makes 2 of us, I'd have to drive the first 475 yards to even have a chance at hitting that plate with one.
