Want a new Rifle

Well finally received my new Remington 700 SPS in 223.
Loaded 10 Berger 55 grain and 10 Sierra Blitzking 55 grain.
Had some commercial 55 grain to use as sighters to get scope set.
Had a great couple of hours at the range yesterday.
After sighting in at 100 yards with the comercial stuff switched over to the handloads.
Same scope settings and was able to keep 5 shots with both the berger and sierra in a 1/2 inch at 100.
The berger is the better of the 2 as was able to hold a bug hole with 5 shots and then 3 others within the 1/2 inch.

Great day all around

What impressed me the most about it was with the factory trigger at 4 1/2 lbs and the tupperware stock it performed that well straight out of the box.
Had planned to get a Timney trigger and McMillian Stock for it but now I am going to keep it as is for a while and just see what it is capable of out of the box.

Excellent results. But "everybody knows" that factory stocks and triggers are all junk......
except those folks that go out and actually check it out. :) Hard to improve on those
results, sir.

What Bill said. I am a great believer in NOT turning wrenches on things not broken, and in not spending money on upgrades not needed. Enough stuff breaks or messes up on its own without having to prompt or anticipate it.

Congratulations on 65 years of marriage, and on that new Rem 223.

Not just anybody can shoot bugholes with a lightweight sporter, either. Getting under a half inch is a combination of capable rifle AND shooter. I'm gonna say Rodmkr don't need no steenking fancy heavy varmint stock. :)
