What do I need...

Receiver shipped and wait begins!

I scored my lifes supply of Speer 105g bullets. 300+ RN and 300 Spitzers.

Another friend put two boxes of Sierra 85g BTHP to ad to the couple I already had plus a box and a half of Speer 85g BTHP !!! :p;)

So Ill probably be shooting allot of these 85g BTHP's!! Im gonna hold off loading the 105's but Ill load some 85g to have on hand for break in!

Any one shooting a 6 Rem suggest some powders?

Loads of data for lighter bullets but looks like Ill be cyphering to get data for 105+ in the 6Remmy.

My barrel is gonna be a 1:8 twist. So no worries on the longer pills. But i dont find any data. Also perplexing ballistics.

The 6Rem and 6Creed both have 40° shoulders. The creed has slight less body taper & 2k higher pressures then the Rem and 4k more then the 243 Win. But all data manuals show the 243 better speeds then 6Rem and Creed better then both?? The Remmy has the best PC of the three and 60k. So with my ability to seat past 3.0 where the std is 2,80. Ill benefit there as well.

Running the case and bullet dims into QL show about 6 top potential powders. re26, 22 &19. Norma MRP, Ramshot Magnum was all potential of 3200 fps at under 60k and high powder densities and 98+ burns.

I have MRP, re 19 $ 22 on hand.
Suggestions welcome.

Along the lines of the "Help be buy a 45" thread...

A very good friend sent me a email and asked me to stop over Sunday. He knows my affection for 410's and said he had three I might want.
Well the first he pulled out was a 1960's Spanish garden gun. But its not a "410" it has a very short chamber and was shot with blk powder as bores are all bad.

The second was a Savage 24 410/410 nice gun!

Last was one I am gonna buy. American Arms SxS English stock. Dont remember what ge said model was. As new condition, nice walnut checkered butt no pad.

Then he handed me the "project" part of this post... A nicely stocked (HS precision) Weatherby Vanguard VLS 30/06. (Howa 1500 LA) the stock as as expected for a used hunted 30+ year old gun. Steel is still almost perfect. But the barrel... was chopped at 16". Price to me I cannot refuse. But, it would be a project as I simply dont need another '06. Not to mention who wants a 16" '06! So Ill have a LA, with a .473 bolt head.

So, its a good foundation for a new rifle but what caliber?? Knowing I like the off or not so common ducks.

25-06 are nice to have around.

CW rl-19 will do most all you need done.
i ain't found an X57 case yet it doesn't do well in.
but if you want a little more speed 22 is good for another 100 fps and rl-23 will get you 100 more over that.
17 will run slightly higher pressures but still go up and down the ladder of bullet weights just fine and put in some better speed than 19 does.

i don't got none of the others so 19 it was when i had my 6mm rem. and i never really got worked up about 100 or fps.

I have no experience with the 6mm Rem.
But I see that Nosler and Speer have data for 100grs bullets, that should serve as a starting point.

By the way, Speer is one of few companies that also give data for reduced loads. I wish more companies did that. Many non-casters would profit from reduced recoil ammo for practice with their big-game rifles. Maybe they would practice more.

My go to 6mm Rem load is 46.5 gr. of H4831 under 100gr. Hornady interlock BTSPs. I get a touch over 3000 fps with my 22" bbl. 788 Remington. I have used RL-19 but I get better accuracy with the H4831 with bullets 85 gr. or heavier.

Thank goodness you painted that stock, the new colors look sharp. As for powder I've had good results with any of the 4350's AA, H or IMR in my .243s

With 100 grain bullets, Winchester 760 shot better than anything else in my 788.
Thats a powder I have very little of and have t seen in decades!!

I also see 785 listed in some manuals. Again is that even made any more??

Thanks man I have about 1/2 a can remaining. Enough to test.

Winchester 760 and H-414 are the same powder. Both my 6mm and .30-06 Model 70 love it with heavy boat tails. I haven't bought any for a while, but I'd be surpised if it has been discontinued.

I don't shoot jacketed stuff much anymore, so the slow burning stuff doesn't get bought or used much around here nowadays. Been meaning to get after cast in the 6mm, have the bullets cast and sized/lubed, just need to make it happen. I sent some to my brother who shot them in his .243 and he was very pleased.

I went to 100 grain Sierra softpoint boattails for both the .243 Winchester and 6mm Remington. Both rifles like H-4831 at maximum charges. You have to shoot 85 grain bullets or heavier to gain a wind-drift advantage overt the high-speed twenty-two cartridges. My boxes of lighter 6mm bullets go through my Savage Striker to use them up.

I sized up about 40 more this AM and decided to quite. This is more of that questionable history brass. It was old stock loaded in 1963 & 65. Fully prepped and investigated. Out of original 200+ I tossed 15-20 for splits. Another 6-8 for cancer. I lost a couple more depriming. So lets say 140 ish remain. Of these about 60/40 244/6mm head stamps all RP.

My issue is there history. I have already decided they will be reserved for lighter bullet loads if not tossed after next firing. The case heads are quite expanded. Sizing is difficult and thats what broke the Mpress. I blamed myself and improper lube. (Imperial, applied with fingers) Now... It was likely just a excessively, swelled case head.
I switched sizing to the RCBS Summit. Im better able to size in steps. Meaning start release rub lube try again. Stop apply/redistribute lube and usually finish sizing. Case usually drops perfectly i to Wilson checker. Measuring cases. Now Im thinking a old issue might also be case. Old dies over sizing.

It happened to me with a Old Herters 300H&H and Lyman 358 Norma sizers. Bought new sizers and bingo no issues and cases drop i to checkers. This set of 6mm is early 60's RCBS.
I ordered a new Foster 6mm Sizer to see.

So seeing as Im just loadin shootin ammo. Im gonna hold till next week when. New sizer comes in.

Well....

That "new sizer" was a Forester match unit and it was lost. Just received the refund.

I had a set of 69 RCBS dies that I suspected where slightly undersized. I ran across a newer RCBS 20$ and grabbed them. These was better and slightly larger. (Didnt size as small) but man did I have to cam over to fit the wilson gauge. PLUS run out seems crazy bad! (my other thread about that, found that unit had its own issues.)
I been looking for another Forester die even calling Forester but none in stock. So I bought a Redding set. I thought allot about just a bushing die from Redding. I have t had one before and read good things. But found good price on Redding set so just grabbed that.

It came yesterday. Quick set up showd good results. Normal cam over resulted in perfect fit in Wilson gauge. (Dont have rifle to check in)
Run out is within .003 where first RCBS was about .005 and second RCBS was scary .015+!!!! This is just case necks!!!!!
I even RE sized sized cases from .015+ out to find then under .003 after trip thru Redding Dies.

I dont wanna get too anal here as I know its not a enormous contributor to preformance. Its nice to know its pretty straight.

I also grabbed a LEE die... I know I had issues over and over. But I grabbed a neck sizer die. They STILL have a alum cap... But its .003 tighter neck tension then the Reddings. Will it mean anything?? Time will tell!

Hoping to see return of the barreled action by April.

H414,my favorite 6mm powder.
I remember 1time i loaded some,and somehow i had h335 in my measure,,didnt catch it until i loaded a few.1st shot....
Wow come to find out,,that volume of 335,,was a 13 gr above max load!!!primer, pocket, and flash hole was blown out,,old rem700 varmiter held it well,,bolthandledidnt break off, upon beating the gun open,,
Very stupid,,ever since,i never leave powder in the measure, over night.
