What do you listen to while casting?

Mostly the neighbors dogs barking because I cast outside.
But turn the tunes on while sizing and lubing. John Prine, Johnny Winter, Muddy Watters, Howlin Wolf, and so on.
Most anything but rap and country.

I have tinnitus that is loud enough to be heard over whatever background noise there happens to be. There are quiet times when I just listen to the sounds my brain is making, with each ear having its own unique ringing.
Mine as well. Dosent make it gone... Makes it more tolerable. It’s odd cause real loud makes it far worse. Like when some asshat comes off indoor range during a relay... Like to see them walk there shins into my trailer hitch. Cause if it’s just right I go home with a migraine. Folks just don’t understand how bad this can be. Can’t tell ya the number of places I flat walked out of because some loud noise. It’s quite debilitating. Even tho it’s been nearly twenty years since it’s onset.

Slight angle on listening, but... They now make bluetooth speaker shop lights. I have 2 - one in the garage and one in the loading room. Love them. No earphones. And, if a phone call comes in, the music stops, so I know to check the phone. Great for wood working in the garage, and keeps me from having to swap headphones/muffs all the time too.

I've worn out 2 CD's of Marty Robbins Gunfighter Ballads. Classical, mostly Mozart, Chopin & Beethoven. Celtic, Smooth Jazz, old blues. 50's Rock&Roll .
Heck, I listen to just about anything Before 1985

Man can I relate to that. I remember everything between 1955 and 1968. Then nothing till "Saturday Night Fever" came out and the wife started taking me to disco's.

I've built playlists on Spotify with everything from Rock-A-Billy to early 70's. I also really like a Library App we have in WI and listen to books, lots of books. John Sanford, Micheal Connelly, Lee Child, Tony Hillerman, David Baldacchi, Rex Stout, etc. I used to use audio books to shut up my transportees before I re-retired. Worked like a charm. We'd get to the joint and the inmate would ask, "How will I find out how that book ends?" I'd write down the title and author for the inmate. So there we'd be transferring custody to the institution and the guards are going through the inmates very very limited property and they'd ask, "What's this?" Looking at the little slip of paper and of course the inmate would tell them. You should have seen some of the looks I got. Nice quiet, peaceful drives of a couple hours without all of the crying and whining about how nothing was their fault, or how mean the DA is, or any of that typical conversation through the cage.

I been thinking about this topic and what I would put down. Because I like a wide variety of music, problem is radio reception here is pretty poor.
But in my reloading room as well as my shop I listen to silence. Summer wind, and birds. Winter just silence.
One reason is there is no cell signal, or any Wifi in my shop. For years we were challenged by being on generator and solar power from the mid 70's till 1995 when we got grid power. So music would have to be recorded on a device for use in the shop or out on a job site. I just could not be bothered.

The voices in my head ? ;) ......just kidding.

Usually 80's rock, some 60's & 70's stuff, Rockabilly, Surf music, Jazz, Blues, Classical.
The studio bands from the 70's & 80's were very good.

I have a pretty wide range that I listen to. I actually enjoy a good mix of genres.

Not much tolerance for Country Music (it has become pop-rock with a twang and is just over-produced; sorry)
Hip Hop and Rap is noise and NOT music.

John Prine died today.
Was kinda strange, were listening to him this afternoon while playing cards with Karyn. Then and email came to Karyn saying he passed from Corona - 19. Saw him play here in Fairbanks in the early 80's I believe it was. Great music.

Yep, just read it also. First heard him about 1975 and have enjoying his songwriting and music since. I have some mid-'70s LPs and mid-90s CDs. I prefer his post-cancer gravelly voice. I named my Pandora music station John Prine.
