What is your weather today?

Severe thunderstorms rolled through last night. Weather radio was going off so frequently, that we finally shut it off. We lost power for two hours. Whole house propane generator took care of that, nonsense. Lots of small branches down, around the house. Probably, some trees in the woods. Received, 2.1 inches of rain.

We pass the ServePro and Don's welding, everytime we go to town. Don welded and reinforced my 2" receiver hitch on the Polaris Ranger.

We had 2 separate "Tornado Warnings" last night. Spent the first one in the safest basement room in the house. A little research showed the second one was not really pertinent to us. Never lost power. Had one lightning strike where we could hear the crackle. Have not yet checked trees.

Clear and 73 today with a light breeze. 2 inches of rain night before last but on the bright side I don't need to plow or even shovel rain.

Another beautiful day in the neighborhood. Projected high of 82 degrees. Seventy six, tomorrow. Bottom falls out staring Friday. Saturday's gun season opener is calling for 29 degrees. Sunday morning's low is 24 degrees. Morning lows, stay below freezing mark, till next Sunday, the earliest. :sigh: Winter has arrived.

Fall colors, on the southern ridge, behind our house.

Overnight Monday and through yesterday afternoon, the rain frog collected just shy of two-inches. Yippie, skippy! Last rain year's total was 12", and 7" of that fell in December, so that 2" was significant. Haven't check the frog, yet, for last night's rain.

Oh, Monday night we were entertained by two thunder rumblings, which is something that we may go two or three years without hearing. Cool, man.

Remnants of hurricane Nicole coming through most of last night and for a good part of today. Nothing but on and off rain, heavy at times, but should be out of here by around 10PM tonight and we're under a tornado watch till 3 PM EST. Current temperature is 60 degrees with 95% humidity. Cool down coming next week starting on Wednesday with highs in the low fifties during the day and below freezing at night for several days in a row with a chance of ice next Saturday.

Last week I purchased a new sliding patio door and yesterday had it installed. Wow what a difference that made. It must have been 5 degrees warmer in the house last night. Might help on the utility bills.

Yep, if there is a good thing about ticks it's that they are cold blooded and at those temps their little legs don't work. Not cold enough to kill them though, they hide under a pile of leaves or something and wait for a warmer day and then dine at their leisure. Damn things anyway, chiggers are worse I think.

Chiggers are itchier, but at least they don't pass potentially lethal diseases or that dreaded allergy to mammal meats.

That's true but at least you can see a tick and pluck it off. Need a microscope to see a chigger. Photographer that got this picture has my respect. Can't figure out how he even found it to take the picture.

Chiggers are a B%$*#*^$!!!!! And they LOVE ME! About the only bug that will bite me, but those little bastiges get revenge for the entire bug kingdom! If I get into them, I take a bleach bath 'hot enough' to chemically burn my dingle dangles.

Whenever I know I'll be out where the ticks & chiggers are I use spray on DEET. A few weeks ago, I was over at John's cutting up a downed tree. Sprayed the DEET on shoes, socks, legs above the socks, arms, neck and ran out before doing the skin above the belt. No ticks but got about 30 chigger bites around the belly, sides, back just above the belt. 5 days of pure hell.

I discovered that Neosporin +pain will stop the itch. Put a dab on a Band-Aid pad and rub it in, leave it on for a couple of days. Band-Aid is only so your cloths don't rub off the Neosporin. Takes about 5 minutes and the itch is gone.

For those not familiar with those little ^&**&%% the itch is so strong it feels about like someone holding a lit cigarette on you. Not fun.

Gonna sound weird but a little Ben-Gay, Icy Hot, or Aspercreme will help with the itch form big bites.

Counter irritants work well.
