Why do I hate anything alox?

I detest the smell of alox lubes. The lube, the smoke, all of it.
Indoors it is also very smokey And after 200 round today I can taste it still. Yuck.

I like it a whole lot better then the stuff My Dad used to mix up 60+yrs ago.

You try rancid bear fat, pig lard and candlewax. Even a boiling beef tongue will smell better.

PC is so much friendlier indoors than any traditional lube.
I acquired thousands of loaded rounds from Paul so they need to be shot. He used lots of LLA and other alox based Lube.

I can still taste the stuff.

And here I am recalling a discussion with friends in TX where the lady comments that the smell of the 50/50 bees wax and 2138f was felt to be a kind of a turn on. We finished loading that batch of bullets and I went home.

I prefer root canals and spinal taps to shooting indoors.

Dunno about the "Alox smell/smoke", but honeybees get very indignant when you shoot 50/50 Alox/BW lubes in areas where their flowers and hives are nearby. This goes double for those feral "Africanized" bees that now reside in the Colorado Desert. I have been run out of a couple spots I like to shoot south of I-10 along Red Cloud Road during times of "superblooms" of desert wildflowers (February-April).

Alox doesn't really bother me, I guess I'm lucky.

One that does bother me...Lithi-Bee!
Shortly after I started casting, I was about to begin making lube. A friend (gutshot_again) who I met years earlier on a brass trading website, swapped a bunch of lube making stuff, included was some Lithi-Bee lube that he made as an experiment. When I would shoot some cast bullets lubed with that, it made the entire range smell like a grease fire...well, that began my HATE of anything Lithi-Bee.

Down here the first batch we put together was Bees wax - fish oil based bearing grease (50-50).. That smells like fried fish.
Now we use olive oil-BW (45%-55%). That one I can cook indoors.
I stay as far away from indoor ranges as I can.

The indoor range is close to home, like 10 min instead of 35 mom to outdoor range. It is a convenience thing to me on days where I work.

I don’t shoot there much in the summer but sometimes it just makes sense.

I don't mind the alox smell, matter of fact I kinda like it and been using it for years, not diluted but even concentrated to work with finger lubing, I still use it some in our milsurp matches, the mix I use now for most stuff smells like biscuits cooking so the Alox is getting even more concentrated. I powder coat lots of stuff also, but never get the gilt edged accuracy for matches that I do with either lube style

Rocky doc, you remind me of a transmission guy I knew back in the 80s, he said that if he ever met the Chevy engineer that designed their transmissions he would kiss him on the mouth for sending his kids to collage for him

It was Hydramatic's engineers, but GM spec'd a price point and 75,000 mile life expectancy. God bless them, they fed LOTS of mechanic's kids and are still doing it today. I've done a lot of cash-on-the-side bench jobs, poor people helping poor people have transportation.

Ian, yeah my first two company trucks an 82 and an 85 never saw 40000 miles, but they were oil field tested, cattle guards and 3 inch crusher run is hard on anything. Sorry for the drift Brad...... Bill
