44 Special and Magnum Mould.

SWC in a levergun and COAL:
I played with my Henry BBS 41 mag a lot, using Lee's 195gr SWC. When I found the COAL window of function, I had Jared at Arsenal make a custom mold with Crimp groove in optimum location and I also had him radius the forward edges like Lee's design.

Unless, your loading for a carbine that balks at SWC designs.

Accurate 43-240F is my design for a plainbased bullet which is lever action friendly, has a large meplat for good game performance and which is effective at subsonic revolver velocities and in rifles up to about 1400 fps.

I use 5 grains of Bullseye in .44 Special, 6 grains in .44-40 and 7 grains in .44 Magnum. For heavier hunting loads in .44 Magnum 20 grains of IMR4227. No gas checks. Low cost. I use 50-50 plumbers lead and Wheelweights +2% tin.

i use a Ruger SBH (4 5/8" barrel) in 44 mag. i use RCBS 250K and a 250gr Mihek penta HP in 44 Special (Skeeter load of Unique). i use a 280gr WFN with Unique and 2400 in 44 Mag. i killed several deer with them.

I appreciate all the suggestions and replies.

Since I do have a Winchester 92 44 Magnum now, I'll have to make up some dummies and figure out what my rifle will feed length wise. This also makes an impact on my search for a new mold. So far, it won't feed the RCBS 44-240-SWC or 44-250-K in magnum brass, but it feeds them just fine in special brass. The Ranch Dog 432-265-RF feeds great in magnum brass, and so far as been my go to bullet. I have a lot of experimenting left to do.

@Outpost75 , I'm not sold on that accurate bullet simply because of the slight bevel base as I plan to use lube and not PC exclusively. How does such a slight bevel base do when going through a Lyman lube sizer? I don't think I have ever tried it, but just always steered clear of them.

If you order the mold from Tom he can make you a plain flat base if you don't want the bevel. I like the bevel for ease of loading. I tumble lube with LSStuff 45-45-10 so the bevel is of no issue. I find the bevel base reduces forcing cone leading when a larger throat-diameter bullet of say .433 or so is extruded into a tighter barrel groove diameter of .429

Thank you very much for that information. Yeah, I thought about it after I asked, and figured I could just have him cut the base plain.
