When I first received my new barrel for my CPA in 30-30 WIN I test fired the Lyman 311291 and didn't have much success. As a matter of fact I put that bullet on the back burner and thought about trying it in another rifle. Had some work done on the throat and gave it a try again. Happy I did!
Starting with a charge of 4227 at 14.0 grains I test fired at 100 yards from the benchrest at out shooting house. The rifles bore had already been seasoned and was shooting well with another load. A look at the attached photo of the first two targets shot show you what was a pleasant surprise. These two targets were shot consecutively at 100 yards. The rifle was then turned to the 200 yard target and a shot with the same load was fired to test the elevation needed to be on at that distance. It took an additional 11.75 MOA over the 100 yard setting. A shot was fired at the 200 yard target and it struck to the right I assume it was my fault for not judging the wind right. The next 3 shots were where they had intended to be.
Have 5 more rounds loaded with 15 grains of IMR4227I turned back to the 100 yards target and shot the target marked with the 15 grain powder charge. I was pleased to say the least. I plan to repeat this test and if all points to it being consistent I will test at ranges greater that 200 yards. The BC listed to this bullet that I could find was a not very impressive .1929
