My Act, Up On Blocks

I seem to run into situations fairly frequently anymore that remind me I'm no longer an immortal 20 something year old.
I hope this passes quickly for you Al.

It's not the years, it's the miles.

Years ago,had an older friend/customer who was "the orthopedic, hand specialist".Prolly 25 years my senior.Anyway he was a budding wood worker and would watch and ask questions.Which was fine,it's nice when a customer enjoys the experience.

We did a bunch of work at his office as well. There were a few times over the years,I'd jab or get minor hand injuries, would go over to his office....knock on the back door, ask if the Dr was in.

No insurance,no paper work, only his busting on me,laughing, for being dumb.Oh,they could've been bandaided ,but mostly got to see my ole bud.

Also a lefty....no back problems, except for infrequent muscle spasms. Been coping in a right-handed world for 65 years.

SA revolvers are not an issue. DA revolvers would be better if they swung out to the opposite side. I despise safeties on trigger guards unless capable of reversing, like the Model 12's. I prefer tang safeties and think they are more natural as well as ambidextrous. Semi auto pistols are only considered if they are DAO, without levers cluttering up the sides. Ten percent of the population is LH. Firearm manufactures are missing out if they only offer RH safeties. Most 1911's, come to mind. Probably, why I never had the interest in obtaining one.

Winelover, I feel your pain. Being highly dominate right-handed, I went through several Colt SSA's and many Ruger SA's before I just sold them all. So great in theory, but a pain to reload. I can reload an 1851 Navy faster than a SSA by using paper cartridges. Only once did I get to handle a Lone Star which is a mirror image of a SAA for righties. But never could afford to buy one.

I'm a righty but have no issue with single actions.
Khornet has a good friend who is a lefty and he always preferred Savage rifles because they made left handed rifles.

That's the principle appeal to me with Savage rifles as well. Not that Remington and Winchester didn't also make lefty models, but try finding one in the wild. Also being able to buy a real nice custom drop-in barrel and recoil lug and install them myself. From a bench, I still prefer a right-eject, right bolt rifle, but in the field, give me a lefty please.

I am morbidly left-handed. I almost gave up on casting entirely until I figured out how to convert ladles to left-hand. Now they're commonly available.

The worst part of this has to be that new Henry .357, just out of CA. quarantine, sitting idle and lonely. Get well soon, Allen!

Winchester offered the Model 70 "Classic" (control round feed) in LH back in the 90's. Ruger always offered left handed M77 in limited calibers. Those are the ones I own, 338W and 270W, respectively.

After most of my life not having a left handed anything for my cross eyed dominance I found a lefty Savage . It was heaven , until I caught myself reaching over the scope with my right hand to run the bolt ........ Old habits anyone ?

I had one of the very last ones of those Winchesters made, circa 2007, in .30-'06. It was a real lemon, eventually I got rid of it even though it was left-handed. I kinda sorta still want one of the FN-made versions just because I like the CRF so much.

I actually have three of the Stainless Steel Classics and all are very accurate. Purchased a couple of RH versions for Cindy. Featherweights in 243W and 308W.

My oldest son (now 56) is left hand dominant. At age 12 he decided to learn to shoot right handed. He is a crack shot and I doubt he could even shoot left now.

Update time......saw the orthopedic folks on Tuesday, got better X-rays. The fracture ISN'T simple--it's a "butterfly" chipped off just above the knuckle. The good news is that such breaks largely heal themselves, almost never need surgery but should be in a cast.

Oh, HELL NO.

Swelling is greatly reduced, misalignment is almost gone. Not my first busted finger by any means, and I never had a cast on any of the previous ideations. I just taped the busted one to its adjacent unbusted one, and kept playing football or doing cop work--'cause if I got a cast put on that would mean sitting out the games on the bench or sitting at the desk in the station, both of which sucked canal water. The doctor went along with my take on the matter, and the matter is getting handled with taping and Tylenol. Yes, it hurts--as does my knee. But it is survivable, and I can reload and manage that Henry and the AR rat strafer and the 22-250 bolter like the fall never happened. All's well that ends well. X-rays in a month (2/17), and we'll see how things progress. Now--if the ^%$& rain would let up for a bit, I could get some shooting done between disasters. I don't remember busted digits hurting so darn much in the past, but back then I was immortal. That must make a difference.

You also won't remember them taking so long to heal.:( Great that you don't need the closed reduction procedure (typical surgery for that) or even a cast.
