What Did You Shoot Today?

Took two rifles to range with a buddy yesterday morning.
I brought the Predator 223, cause I moved scopes again.... :). I couldnt see that Riton on the HB ar upper just sitting there when I had a cheaper (still good) optic on my Predator that I regularly shoot and hunt. (Esp now its breeding season for coyotes!) So I swapped and had ta site. Ironically, That awesome group I shot with "cheaperL optic could NOT be duplicated yesterday!! Same ammo lot too.

It came close, still under 1" but not a touching ragged hole.

Then the 6arc came out. I had two ladders.
95g sst W/ 2000MR Fed Match prime
85g Sierra W/levergun and Fed Match Prime.

Sst/2000MR was worst groups this rifle has ever shot for me. Small 4 load string. All was 1.5-1.75".

The Sierra was VERY nice. Bigger string of six loads. Four was under 3/4" warst was just over 1" but looked bad next to such tiny groups. Each group was two in one hole and one beside. One was under 1/2"! So my rest/ position was cause of even that "loose" of a group. I need invest in a better rest. This rifle is another shooter!

Here is five of that best shooting charge.

Very pleased!

Now, you'll have to get a shooting jacket to show off all those patches
I'm laughing as I type this. I was thinking exactly the same thing. I also like the patches over trophies or plaques. You can put them on a wall in your basement, on a jacket, on your shooting box, in a framed backer and YOU NEVER HAVE TO DUST THEM!!

Congrats, Ian. You did very well.

Start at about nine grains. Size no larger than .310" and do let the bullets have a little run at the throat. I know that's contradictory to all conventional wisdom, but just try it.

A couple other shooters have been making noise about starting a Schuetzen match at Wilton. We do host the regular Schuetzen matches twice a year. But those guys are all shooting the latest and greatest when it comes to scopes and rifles. We are talking about a more traditional match, shooting vintage single shots with vintage external adjusting scopes. I suspect it will a topic of conversation tomorrow at the range.

Beautiful day here in SE PA. I shot my 1:10 twist Rem 722 in 300BO. I had loaded (20) rounds with H110 and as a test (5) rounds with WC820. Both with the Saeco 315 at 178gr. Really pleased with both and looking forward to working with the WC820. I've got plenty and have had success with it in 7.62x39 and 350 Legend. No need for it in magnum handguns, AA7 does all I can handle.

H110 is good for full power loads in the BLK under 110-125-grain bullets but that 30-carbine surplus powder is much better at more sedate velocities as you discovered. If you want a screamer, powder coat some gas-checked 311416s and stuff in about 16 grains of H110.

Nice weather this morning
9 am, 42º, sunny, and calm.
I brought the Redhawk 41 mag to the range to use up a couple boxes of ammo. I think it shoots better (feeling-wise) then my 6" Mod 57, I wish I could have thought to bring the 57 along to compare...maybe next time.
The Targets weren't great, but I assumed they wouldn't be, the MP413640 bullets haven't shot well in any of my revolvers, Hence todays range trip, to shoot up all of that batch. All gone now, and never again. Using 8.5x11 copier paper with 1" circles for targets, at least I didn't miss the paper (50') and I came home with a baggie of brass and a couple handfuls of range scrap bullets. I think I have enough for a small schmelting session.

Last week Wednesday I mailed my Kidd two stage 10-22 trigger in to Kidd for servicing. I wanted it cleaned and adjusted for a 1 lb. pull. I was having trouble not feeling the stop between stages once in a while. It came back today already and all it cost me was postage.
I re-installed the trigger in my Kidd rifle and took it out and ran about 40 rounds through the rifle. Worked splendidly.

A friend asked me to look at yet another gun I wasn’t aware that he had…..
It is not an Uberti; to my surprise it is a Winchester 1873 made in 1883!
Garishly gloss reblued, with a buttstock that looks more like some CAS guy “distressed” it than 141 years of honest wear…..
The lever had so much side to side play that unless you put hard English up and left on the lever- it wouldn’t fire.
So I made and installed a shim washer to tighten it up. It works, but it’s raining nicely today so I’ll wait to test fire it.
Yesterday I shot just a few fireforming loads in my 7-30 Topper- looking good so far.

Making progress with two rifles.

Mayodan (Ruger) Marlin .44: 50 shots, factory and handloads, without the lever locking up in the forward position after the last shot from the magazine. Handload was Accurate 43-215H over 7 grains of Viht. N340, very pleasant to shoot. Getting 1-7/8" five shot groups at 40yards. After shooting, I put it in the rack with the lever open. When I closed it to case it the lever stuck a bit. I'm going to shoot it a bit more and then disassemble to see where the interference is taking place.

Ruger .30-30 No. 1, RCBS 150 FN PB over 9.6 grains of Viht. N340. One inch a 50 yards. Seated short to just engage the lands of the short throat, .311" as cast. Per the current .30-'06 thread I'll try seating a little bit shorter.

Also shot my S&W 624 with the 43-215H over 7 grains of Viht. N340. 1-1/2 at 25 yards.

My son shot his Ted Willliams .30-30 with 135 grain cast bullet (store bought) over 10 grains of Unique. He was shooting the silhouettes, knocking them over.

All in all very enjoyable.

Have not shot anything myself, since the 2 racoons last week for he neighbor.
It's Re-up time at the club. The gate combo has been changed. So no where to shoot target or build loads. Till after April 3rd. When I can make the meeting and pay my dues.

How expensive are the dues Emmitt?
