Sometime in the early or mid 70's I saw Richard Davis shoot himself in the chest with a .357 Magnum. He was a pizza delivery guy who got shot and decided he needed more protection. He started using Kevlar to make vests and founded "Second Chance Body Armor". I thought the guy was crazy, but he was a hell of a salesman.

I don't know what "ABN" school is, but to a man, every Warrant Officer I ever came in contact with in the Corps was a both a leader and an exceptional Marine. One with 30 plus years on, that would be the epitome of a "Career Marine"!!!

"ABN" the basic parachutist class (Airborne). You only get one chance in your life, pass or fail, no exceptions. Break a leg? Too bad you're done.

Ric beat me to it. "ABN" the basic parachutist class (Airborne) - ie: a bunch of people jumping out of a supposedly perfect airplane...

I am not sure any more if it is a one and done.

Five jumps, four with equipment and one "Hollywood" jump. That is just the minimum fatigues and safety gear. That is the reward for doing four with all your gear.

He shot himself with I believe a 44 on the downtown Missoula courthouse lawn in front of an audience way back decades ago. Yes, he was wearing one of his vests.

Ah, not anything that ever even remotely appealed to me. I know how my luck runs. You just don't push certain things with a track record like mine! You guys can have my share. Same goes for locking yourself in a steel tube and letting it sink, or closing yourself in a steel box with a gun and tracks on it and letting another guy in another box/gun/tracks shoot at you so you can be immolated. Nope, I'm pretty sure walking up on a car you've never seen before on a dark highway in the middle of nowhere was lots safer than that other stuff!

I did airborne school Spring of '89. BAsically your brain can go completely dormant for the duration, the classic case of the Army's "four days of training crammed into three weeks". Not gonna lie, the jumping part scared the crap out of me and truthfully, just can't see that it's a worthwhile skill set or capability anymore, at least not on a large scale, maybe for special ops stuff.

Even as young and dumb as I was, I was smart enough to know my chances of getting killed or maimed in a jump were greatly reduced if I didn't jump, so #5 was my last one, never wanted to again. Most of career I was in mechanized units, never dug the light fighter mentality, they tend to be rock heads and if going into harm's way, I want enough mobility and firepower to be able to hurt something.

It was only a few years back it seems that being able to project your PC's screen onto your TV was BIG THING!!! I don't know if anyone still uses that option, probably a few.

I use it quite a bit in my classes. Moved into a new high school last year, nice facility, but a big part of it was having a Smart board in every single room. I know I'm not using the thing to it's fullest capabilities like some teachers are (I am something oof a technology phobe, after all) but plug a lap top or even DVD player into that thing and it's great.

We will use that option when a program can't be streamed, with our normal streaming service..............but can be watched online.

I do this all the time. Not a smart TV..not WIFI, but I use a HDMI cable...which also brings the sound to the separate TV sound system.

Brings back memories of the "overhead projector" and the grease pencil my math teacher used. I hated math, hated the stupid projector and really hated that he'd try to wipe the grease pencil off and it would just smear. For some reason I found that really irritating. But then, I hated school to start with, so...

Well, I suppose that's basically what a Roku type system is, isn't it?!!! In that case I guess it's extremely popular, I just hadn't thought of it that way!

Someplace in my stash I had an NEI 330-245 that was hit dead center by a 7.5 Swiss IIRC. The Swiss was the FMJ and it caught the NEI right about in the middle length and width-wise. Have to see if I can find it.

The stuff you find when mining the berm!!!
