I been devoting allot of affection to the 880sq the 782 was moping... I pulled it out today and gave it a good look over.

Pulled the almost 6# trigger apart, stoned contacts and changed out the main spring.

Then I measured the stock for a pillar as wood was severely compressed from 30+ years of snugging... Made and epoxied in a .800" 1/2 dia pillar.

Its drying now. Feels far more stabile in the stock. But with only a single action screw. I need to bed the tang area for stability.

That reminds me... I've been neglecting my 917v... has a nice 4-12 weaver on there, and is a tackdriver. Just a fun toy for plinking, and need to take her out to the grain fields.

I started into my Marlin 782 22WMR last week.

IMG_3518.jpeg

She is a long time favorite. But isnt my first. Sold that one. No idea why... This one was reason I bought the other one. It was a childhood friends. He bought it after getting out of High School 1978. I shot it many times before we traded. He wanted my Sts Marljn 17 HMR & I didnt. ;) I did like that 782!!

Anyhow its never been a great shooter. But looks and feels perfect to me. SO, I decided to try a better scope then the ol Simmons it wore. And found the action screw loose. Looking closer the wood was indented over 1/16". So I pillar bedded it & found some movement. The Barrel was free floated. I also found that the bedding post, was dovetailed into the barrel excessively loosely. I prick punched the bottom of the dovetail post then drifted it back into the barrel but it wasn't as tight as I liked so I removed it, slathered in sleeve tite, lock tite and staked the corners. I filled corners and such with Clay and coated the action in release spray.

These RF's just aint a CF and are not built with there solid bedding. Most using a single action screw. They need that barrel channel contact, to hold things. SO, I hogged out & abraded about 2" in-front of that post. Mixed up some epoxy and coated the channel in thick epoxy. Its drying now. I sure hope it pops out.. Yea I know I say that allot..

I popped it out this evening after dinner! ALMOST 100% perfect!!! Only issue was my ham handed preformance with the dremel. I filled it twice so far with wood filler. But the stuff shrinks badly...

Barrel perfectly centered a d rock solid!

Scope should arrive Monday.

fiver I have a CZ MTR & my son has 1 also. I have put a Harrel tuner on both & both shoot in mid. .3s & smaller tuner on both set on 4.00 with SK std plus. If I wanted to buy something less expensive I would buy a CZ 457 varmint with Pro-varmint stock. others mite prefer different stock. The few I have owned shot well. Not as good as MTR but pretty good. right at .500 to .600 with same SK ammo.

Got to shoot the Marlin and RPR today. I picked up a few new brands of ammo. SK Pistol and both Wolf flavors.

Both guns liked SK Pistol. I only go the the Wolf Match Target and it took over twenty rounds before it settled in and began to shoot. The SK was good after 7-10.

The Marlin shot a unbelievable four round before the fifth fouled the group. Using SK Pistol.

Four shots into .195!!!!!! WOW! I was outside and altho it was pretty calm, winds where increasing.

Shooting the RPR RWS Rifle Match was doing well and it shot a .656 but 4 of those went into .270!

Remainder of groups hovered .650-.800 with even Remington Golden and Thunderbolts shooting well.

AND that's the conundrum I have with various brands of ammo. I've found the Rem bulk pack of Golden shoot as well as Aguila Match; Federal Match, Tac 22 ect. However the CCI Standard Velocity seems to outperform them all in shooting 4 shot groups; still get the pesky runaway shot.
CW; you flat point any of your's? I think it helps a smidge, but for tired old 78 year old eyes that's about all I get. I've stopped flat pointing, weighing and other "tricks" and now just enjoy plinking like when I was 14~15. I think the single most important thing I did that did actually improve my groups is the acquisition of my Bergara B14R, really like that tool.

Like you, I have reached the point, that I can no longer shoot well enough to measure .00's of an inch. On a 25 shot group, the core group of twenty is still very very good. But the others with both double aperture or scope, just let bullets leak out of the group. Now I just shoot for fun!:p

I always had my best accuracy with the old CCI made Blazer in the 50rd boxes. Once federal took over they did not shoot as well. And now that remington is supposedly making them all who knows.

I broke out a bulk box of the blazer the other day to just try them. They had dried up hard chalk looking waxy coating on them. They did no shoot very well at all.

I shot the Marlin 782 and pleased would be an under statement.

I shot 7-8 different ammo's. NOTHING was over 1.25" @ 50 yards. The
ammo's it liked were 1/2"!!! Of coarse Hornady V-max. CCI Vmax was good too. Fiocci and Winchester PDX1 all shot under 1". I shot Both V max bullets at 100 and both hovered 1".

Now this gun was a 2-2.5" 100 yard shooter. Sometimes it would do 1.5 ish.

The Monstrum scope is very nice esp for 150$!!!! Its eye relief is short @ top
Power. Not enough to be issue u less you have cramped shooting positions. The reticule is in NO WAY to thick or bold for my shooting.

I need to take pics of targets when I get to my loading room.
