.303 Uberti Stalking Rifle

I acquired one of the .303 Uberti Stalking rifles a while back. It is my intention to shoot a lot of cast loads in it, though I'd like to load some deer rounds for it and I'm thinking those will be based on a 150 to 175 gr JSP, unless someone can convince me otherwise. As for the cast loads, I'm looking for suggestions of where to start. I do not yet have a .311" mold, so my mind is open on that front. Powders I have on hand in good quantities are WC844, WC846, WW748, WC852, WC820, RL22, Unique, 2400, WW244, and BE86. Powders that I have in limited quantities include H380, RL15, Varget, Red Dot, Blue Dot, and 760, RL19, and H414. Mostly I'm looking to shoot targets at 100 to 200 yards.

Thank you for any suggestions!

I only know about target shooting. So Unique will do fine for 100 yards and 2400 will to fine for 200 yards. As a rule of thumb, long heavy for caliber bullets shoot better for target work, 200 grains plus.

I had to look that one up... An 1885 Highwall Repro.
That should work fine. I rather like SS rifles for hauling about all day looking for vege-eaters. Popping steel plates out to 300 is also a delightful usage of extra lead.

Ff it has reasonable bore/throat dimensions, try the Saeco #305 for a 190ish gr or the Lee 7.62x39 155 and 160gr for lighter bullets.

I posted here when these came out about how much I lusted after one. The price tag is the only reason I do not have one, I'd love it if they chambered it in .38-55. A .303 would be a pretty darn good chambering as well.

I was very attracted as well. Somewhat suprised at chambering choice. I mean is the 303 more popular then I realize??

I don't know how popular .303 is, but it seems consistently mentioned on various reloading sites.

I started a thread on this last year on other other site that led me to https://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?13425-Cast-Bullet-Loads-for-Military-Rifles-Article

I think there's a huge number of starting points in that post with just the components I have on had.

I read somewhere once that the .303 British had taken down more grizzly bears than any other cartridge. It makes sense, Canada has most of the grizzlies and the .303 was to them what the '06 is to Americans. Whether it's true or not, a heavy for caliber .30 at moderate velocities is a good killer of game.

Dammit, I really need to scrounge the cash up and buy one of those.
I knew I had to have this when I heard about it. They were hard to find and though I didn't pay a premium, I did pay more than I liked when I found one.

I still need to put an optic on it. I haven't decided what I want yet.

Finding a proper optic for a rifle like that is gonna be tough, definitely want something that doesn't ruin the looks and handling of a rifle like that. I think I'd consider some kind of ghost ring sight maybe.

A nice express rear sight would be appropriate for that rifle.

I would also want to trim about 1/2 pound or more from the weight. This is supposed to be a stalking rifle, not a target rifle. Somewhere between 6 1/4 and 6 3/4 pounds would be ideal, in my opinion.
