312290 @ 500 yards

Was a complete joke! I took the chrony today to check my .308 loads of 20gr of SR4759
They shot right at 1600fps. These do very well at 100 yards. Looking through the spotting scope it looked like I might as well have been launching these bullets out there with a sling shot! You could see the bullets tumbling. They are hitting that transonic stage right around 250 yards.
Velocities were
1637
1591
1607
1606
1602
E.S.=46
S.D.=15.29
I have some of the same bullets heat treated that I might try to push a couple hundred feet per second faster and see if I can get there.
A slower powder as well.

Don't know that you will get the accuracy with 4759 going past 20 gr. My 308 does great with 180 gr bullets from 18 to 20 gr with 19 gr about it's best. By 20 gr 200 meter groups open up some. I've never used that bullet or shot it past 200 so your results are interesting.

that would put my 350yd 1800 fps prediction about on schedule.

move to the load we discussed and see how much more you get, then follow those steps I laid out.
your gonna need velocity to make this happen, but you need to get that velocity without damaging the bullet in the launch.
let's see what we can do in the 35-K pressure area first.

if you really got a wild hair and want to just jump ahead we can get you speed no problem, we just have to get that speed in a way that your bullet isn't ruined in the process.
40grs of 4831 and a filler will burn dirty but get you a gentle launch with decent velocity.
I just don't know whether your bullet will come out the barrel shaped like a crooked 2 stage wad-cutter, and that's what we are trying to prevent.

Think Fiver is probably pretty much right on with the
1800 or so FPS out to 350. Keep us posted.

I want 500. I'm loading up ammo as we speak per Fivers advice.

I think you are right. 1600 was only good out to 250 or so.

I have hopes that this year I will be able to do some long rang cast shooting
with Milsurps, 303's, 6.5x55's, 7.65x55, 7.62x54's, 8MM etc. Will be loading all
except for the 6.5x55's to about 1800 fps, the 6.5's, to about 1600 (1906 and 1909
rifles). Will start at 200, and work out over the summer I hope. Have back problems
so much will depend on how much bench time I will get over the course of the
summer. Will be pleased if I can get decent grouping at 300 yds.

I'm looking forward to your results Paul. I'm working up some different loads with a few different bullets and powders. Hope to get out soon for more testing.

300 is pretty easy.
a quick spin of the scope dial of 5 moa from 1 to 200 and another from 2-300 will get you clustered close to the center of the paper.

Got any MP 30 sil? That bullet would be high on my list of things to try. It will handle 2400 fps with no issues at all.

I could fix that for you. Great bullet but can be a bugger to get checks on. You know what, I came up with this neat little tool to handle that.
